HURRICANE FLORENCE

Sunday, September 30, 2018

Dear Friends,

Hurricane Florence

Pastor Monty Kaufman, youth pastor at Grace Baptist of Wilmington, NC, wrote the following note to ORH.  He has been working very hard to help the church, church families, and the community of Wilmington.

“It’s been an emotional roller coaster this week, but the Lord has enabled us to accomplish much and help many people in our church and community. As you know, every day is filled with gospel appointments!  Our own church/school facilities are still being dried out as there was much water damage.  In fact we are meeting outside for our Sunday services (which isn't necessarily a bad thing.)

Thank you for asking and all you have done for us”

Pray for the coming week at Grace Baptist.  Durham Rescue Mission plans to bring a mobile cook station to feed a recovering community close to Grace.  People are just now able to get back to their homes.  They are also distributing relief supplies to the community.  Nothing like a cup of cold water in Jesus name.

Also, ORH thanks Friendship Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC, for their efforts to supply relief goods to the work at Grace.  Another load will be going this week.

Please pray for Mission Air Care and Anchor Baptist Missions for supplying trucks of relief supplies to Grace and around the state.  These are tireless efforts from good men of God.

The work continues in areas around Lake Waccamaw through Pastor Ledbetter and Victory Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC.  Pastor Ledbetter opened his church for food distribution.  ORH contacted Mission Air Care and Anchor Baptist Missions for relief supplies which they graciously supplied and delivered.

Pastor Ledbetter’s church opened for distribution on Saturday, September 29.  He wrote the following when ORH inquired about the distribution.

“Great! 73 folks came for food & supplies…Quartet from Ambassador Baptist College came in at 2:30 and got to help.  Final count 80 people came for help! Amen!”

Please download the PDF to see the work at Victory Baptist.  Thank God for our relief ministries and churches working together for the communities of North Carolina.

Thank God for a financial gift from a major architectural firm in Raleigh, NC.  Thank you, Pastor Chuck Woodruff and Catawba Springs Christian Church for your gracious help in this effort.

BLESSINGS KERALA INDIA FLOODS

Friday, September 28, 2018

Dear Friends,

India

This is the most recent communication from Dr. John Paul Moses ministering in the Kerala, India disaster.  The team has truly risked their lives.  Pray for their safety and God’s blessing.  Download the PDF attached to see their work.

“Dear Uncle Jan and Dr Daniel Jones, Greetings, I hope and pray that all is well with you. I am behind by two updates!

By God's Grace we could rent a larger boat to sail and stay stationed on the backwaters of the Arabian sea at Alappuzha district, Kerala, to reach the most interior villages that were completely submerged, to continue our ongoing humanitarian medical relief for the flood disaster victims. It has been wonderful thus far. We saw 75 people today, who really needed help (COPD, ASTHMA, CHEST INFECTIONS, DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, POST SNAKE BITES, BACTERIAL AND FUNGAL skin infections, NUMEROUS FEVER CASES, POST TRAUMA AND INJURIES AT THE TIME OF THE FLOOD, etc.) and several others who came for some basic pain and antacid medicine. Many continue to be blessed with the medical aid and testimonies follow on that it has been the first of its kind that such a systematic help has been rendered. It is purely God's mighty Hand that is behind us giving us the strength to endure and stretch as much as possible.

Praise God that most importantly we could distribute the new testaments printed in Malayalam. The pictures are attached and am sure it will bless your hearts as it has encouraged us more. Please pray that God's word would be rooted deeply into the hearts of these people. Brother James has been a great help and a blessing.

We stay focused prayerfully to complete our task that God has set before us. God continues to be our only life jacket! May He be lifted-up and glorified above all things through our humble faith.  I will be sending more updates on the clinic day 5.  We love you, Yours faithfully in Christ, JP and Eliz”

ORH will send $2000.00 more to help Dr. John Paul and his team.  They must have enough to get home, as well as, pay their current ministry expenses.

UKRAINE AND NORTH CAROLINA FLORENCE

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Dear Friends,

Ukraine

Lori and Oleg Enskyy wrote about a young girl who was diagnosed with a serious condition at our July 2018 medical clinic.  ORH sent the money to pay for her visit to doctors in Kyiv.  Please download the PDF to see her beautiful smiling face.

“Jan, thank you so much for helping our people.  I have attached a picture of Sofia, when they were in Kyiv for her tests.  The week went very well, and we now have a diagnosis that can be dealt with here in Mukachevo.  Thank you for helping Sofia and her family.  The picture is of her for the first time at McDonalds in Kyiv.  She still talks about it!”

God continues to save people from the July 2018 medical clinic.  We received this message from Sherry Goodson about a young lady being saved.  This communication came from Lori and Oleg.

“Also, we received this wonderful news from Lori. ‘I know you will rejoice with us in Gods greatness of another soul rescued!  New believers to grow in the faith and withstand temptation.  (ORH removed the name), translator from ORH, to grow spiritually and be baptized. She has repented privately and wants to do so publicly before she leaves for work in another country.’”

We have much more work in the Ukraine including a special clinic for Special Needs Children.  You must love the little ones; Jesus wants them sent to him.

Hurricane Florence

People are helping others.  This is a great time to give the Gospel of Christ.

Sherry Goodson; Friendship Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC; wrote us about gathering supplies.  She sent us a picture of her effort.  Thank God for such good people.

“This is what I received from my tennis girlfriends within 48 hours of sending out an email request....trunk load of supplies, plus a $100 check for ORH to send to Florence victims. What a blessing.”

Download the attachment to see Sherry’s auto load.  Pastor Gary Ledbetter sent us the following communication.

Jan, The 30” of rain took a real toll on the Columbus County area here in North Carolina.  Many in the town of Whiteville suffered some type of damage.  The downtown area flooded with up to 52” of water inside some businesses.
The need is for non-perishable food items (such as peanut butter, spaghetti O’s, beef stew.etc), cleaning supplies, hygiene items, diapers, baby wipes, paper products, and baby formula.
Gift cards to Lowes or Home Depot would be helpful….
Thanks so much for standing with us at this time.  May the Lord continue to bless you and the Operation Renewed Hope ministry.  Pastor Gary Ledbetter

ORH has made a connection for Pastor Ledbetter with a great ministry out of Trinity Baptist Church, Ashville, NC, Hearts with Hands.  ORH has worked with them over 20 years.  Thank you to all who make helping others a blessed time.

Download the PDF to see the photos Pastor Ledbetter sent.

Kerala, India Flooding Update

Monday, September 17, 2018

Dear Friends,

Kerala, India Flooding

This is a communication from Dr. John Paul Moses.  He and his team are working very hard with medical needs and telling people about Christ.  I have included the entire communication, please read all.

“Dear Uncle Jan, Greetings again. I hope you were able to see the pictures from our first relief. I am behind in sending these reports due to lack of cellular connectivity. It's about 12:57 am now. Just returned for some rest. We have completed 3 great medical and humanitarian relief camps thus far and this is the update concerning the second one. A total of 43 people have received aid on day one and 133 on day two and 60 on day 3. Many cases of fever. Thank God that we are able to go to the locations where no aid has reached. Many governmental and other NGO's came only till the main highways for the medical relief and not into these remote locations. We have been travelling by boats from small pockets of villages to villages which submerged during the flood.

I thank you all so much for coming forward to help. But from the field I pray that more help would come in to help these needy people..  We are running out on some essential meds and supplies fast, pertaining to diabetes, and hypertension, antibiotics, chest and asthma meds, inhalers etc. The logistic expense has been enormous thus far. We have been setting up tents to have these clinics.. Thank God we could procure them from Bangalore for this cause.. What a timely necessary blessing.

Many actually died due to lack of these meds during the flood.  Please pray and help as much possible. I am sure your hearts would be moved to know that we have introduced the gospel in these locations through this aid showing the love of Christ. Our local pastors will be following up on the same and The first box with 100 malayali (native language of keralites) new testaments have been given.

On the third day today, we went to Panganad, which was entirely under water. Saw 60 patients. A 77 year old man lost everything, along with his only nebulisation machine during this disaster. We gave away the one which we had. Of course he needed it more than ever as he had bilateral extensive bronchi and wheeze with spO2 fluctuating between below 88%.  Seemed to get worse without timely care. Hopefully he should get better with the steroids and antibiotics and nebulisations we have dispensed.. Likewise many, stories such as these.. Praise God for everything..

We have lined up 3 more clinics in the other remote villages which require us to rent a larger boat for us to spend about 4 nights on the back waters of the sea. It is going to cost about 300 usd per night for ten of us.

I am unable to say no because I write with great commitment and determination, that if I go back to Bangalore without helping these needy people, there may be little or no help coming unto them.

As for the team, our orphanage boys, Titus and my cousin Anand, brother James and one of our local contacts, have played a very crucial role in helping us with managing the crowd, triage, medicine boxes etc. Eliz has been handling the pharmacy mostly, as we don't have any dental emergencies here, and no equipment. She cut her finger today, hopefully she should be fine. I have injured my toe due to a small mishap. Snakes and spiders are everywhere...! I have never seen such a big spider in my lifetime until now..

Waiting to hear from you, I am sending Titus back to Bangalore to hopefully gather more supplies for us to refill. Just trusting God for the provision. Yours faithfully in Christ, Jp and Eliz”

ORH has sent $9000.00 toward this great effort to reach the people of India with the love of Christ.

KERALA INDIA UPDATE

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Dear Friends,

INDIA – Dr. John Paul Moses is in Kerala!!!

Please read these communications from Dr. John Paul Moses and his very strong helpmeet, Elizabeth.  Each of these communications indicate two or three days of extremely hard effort to reach the people of Kerala.  Please read all and pray.

09/04/18 - “Greetings from India, Wanted to share this quick update with you all. As you know that our neighboring state Kerala was affected with a massive natural calamity, heavy rainfall, floods and landslides due to which hundreds of thousands of people lost homes and were displaced and that many lost lives and that many were rescued and sheltered in the camps by our army and the government.”

09/07/18“Greetings from India, I just wanted to keep you informed that we will not be able to get into Kerala until Tuesday because of back to back nation-wide strikes and protests that are happening, involving road blocks and fuel supplies, etc….  As I wrote earlier, there were many dead bodies of people and animals that were floating, a disease outbreak was imminent. There are scores of people who are falling ill to Rat Fever (leptospirosis). The first round of incubation period has just gotten over and already many have lost lives.  God is taking us at a perfect time where we will be used by Him Mightily.”

09/13/18“Greetings, It has been quite an adventurous journey thus far. Too many narrow roads and diversions. But God has brought us all safely. I will be writing more. Please keep us in prayer. We love you and are praying for you all through this hurricane Florence. Yours faithfully in Christ, Love, Jp and Eliz”

09/14/18“Dear Uncle Jan and all at ORH,  Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  After much efforts and coordination, we have finally made it into Kerala. The final transit into the state was quite tedious and dangerous. We are heading towards Allepy in the morning tomorrow which is about 150 Km from Trivandrum where we have setup our base. There is some basic paper work involved tomorrow concerning our medical and humanitarian relief, and therefore we start the clinics on Monday morning or by Sunday afternoon.  Allepy is one of the worst affected regions here in Kerala, where as per our information, the interior villages have received minimal or no help. The journey requires us to take boats to get into the village. We are making sure that we are able to get this mode of transport available through our local person when we arrive in Allepy. Please remember to pray for us, as we carry the medicines and supplies on these boats and for the safety of all of us. We go by faith, trusting that God would go before us and make every crooked path straight. He is our only life jacket and we don't have any other.”

Please pray for this tenacious brother and sister in Christ.  Dr. John Paul does not have to risk so much.  His wife does not have to leave her baby.  Others, in India, do not have to work to support their efforts.

These people do this because of their faith in the Lord Jesus.  Please pray they will be safe and all that they do will prosper.  The 09/14/18 email is the last communication we have from them

ORH is privileged to have contributed $9000.00 toward the trip, medicines, supplies and effort.

Please download the PDF to see the first Hurricane Florence delivery to FBN radio network and Grace Baptist Church, Newport, NC.

HURRICANE FLORENCE UPDATE

Sunday, September 16, 2018

Dear Friends,

You will find a few seconds of video attached to this update.  The video is made by Brad Kennon around Warsaw, NC.  As you can see even this far from the coast flooding is happening.  There will be many in need.  This is an opportunity for the church to demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ to the world in need.

“Jan, I have made phone calls to New Bern, Kinston, and Fayetteville this morning. So far, I have not been able to get any information all phones are down.  So, I have sent emails and texts to see if that mode of communication will work. Looking for a landing Zone to set up in those areas.  Just keeping you advised.  God bless your travel, Brad”

Brad communicated with Ralph Pence about the need to obtain tarps.  He will continue searching and going further into the impact area as the flooding allows.

“I am sending you additional information regarding what type damage has happened here.  A lot of roof damage and flooding.  So, as you reach out for donations, please, mention tarps as well as the normal staples.  It is going be a couple of days before we can get into the areas.  Really massive flooding.  Let me know how it is going, and I hopefully will have a staging area within the next few days.”

Brad is also attempting to get help with a generator which is at FBN radio network.  (see in PDF)

“Dan, Nice speaking with you. I have enclosed the 3 photos of the generator. Thank you for your willingness to help.  I will let you know when we have access to the affected areas.  God Bless, Brad Kennon”

Brad will be able to direct prepared people to sites where work is needed.  He is in contact with Dan Esch for demolition and restoration.  Dan wrote the following to ORH.

“If you have information to send along that would be great.   We have an enclosed trailer loaded and ready from our area….  Thanks so much, God Bless, Dan Esch”

Please use the emergency number to let us know of the needs.  ORH will get your requests and do all possible to help.  Send this number to people in need.

LAOTIAN BLESSING

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Dear Friends,

ORH’s dear friend, missionary Derek Thomas, wrote the following, and sent the pictures in the attached PDF.

“Jan, Below are an accumulation of texts from the pastor in Laos. I’ve put them together for you with some editing.  Hopefully you’ve received the 3 emails with photos?  Is it possible through ORH to help anymore? It sounds like the needs are great, but we know as well that there are other places of great need. Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you very much for your ministry both in Ukraine and Laos.  Derek

The Laotian pastor wrote the following:

“Very thanks.  This sticky rice for 18 families which plan to help in beginning.  Now the total victims families is around 47 families (182 people) from 6 villages.  My opinions is let give to each family 1 rice bag and if we can have some more fund later then we give more later. What do you think? Beside rice there are some other thing they in need like clothes and kitchen wares.   Because the flood has been take away.

I’ve told the leaders there to take photos when they come to pick up.  I paid to rice shop and they will slowly come to pick up one by one later….  So we have to help carefully quietly.

They are staying in tent like at east about 3-6 months.  But very thanks for you helped.”

ORH was able to send $3000.00 to buy rice.  The Christians must be very careful not to start a riot with supply distribution.  Pray for these people; they face an unbelievable hardship just to live and eat.  ORH will try again to help.

And we thank our God for His constant provision.  He is able through His words, “peace be still,” to quiet the tempest.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!  And all God’s people say, “Amen.”

If you wish to give by credit or debit card, please go to www.operationrenewedhope.org and choose “Network for Good.”  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose using “My preference is” then stipulate your preference.

HURRICANE FLORENCE UPDATE

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Dear Friends,

Hurricane Florence – Emergency Number (910) 303-0040

Hurricane Florence will soon be a reality on the North and South Carolina coast.

ORH thanks Pastor Alan Jenkins, leader of Nehemiah’s Network, in Cleveland, OH, for allowing ORH to join with them in collecting and shipping supplies.  This ministry is a true blessing, and Pastor Jenkins is a real servant.

ORH thanks Pastor Bob Vradenburgh and Friendship Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, for delivering the first truck of relief supplies to Grace Baptist Church and FBN radio network in Newport, NC.  Michael Peterson and Diane Braswell ordered the food, water, diapers, and paper supplies; and Michael secured transportation.    He delivered five pallets of supplies on Wednesday afternoon before the storm.

ORH thanks Brad Kennon, also from Friendship Baptist, for volunteering to gather information about storm damage.  ORH will use his information to direct church work teams preventing wasted time and funds.  Brad’s information will provide opportunities for Gospel ministry through the work teams.  Pray for Brad’s safety and success.

ORH thanks Pastor Skip Furrow and Northpoint Baptist Church, Winston Salem, NC.  Rick Williamson and Tom Hill helped Michael Peterson load and deliver the supplies to Newport, NC.  Winston Salem was the closest place to obtain the truck and supplies.

ORH was able to provide $8000.00 for this shipment to Grace Baptist.  Pastor Eborn and his church, Grace Baptist, have always been a source of supply for many of ORH’s relief efforts in the United States.

ORH thanks Grace Baptist Church of Brunswick, OH for volunteering once again to collect relief supplies.  Nehemiah’s Network directed ORH to contact Ralph Pence a member of Grace.  In Harvey and Maria, the church people were just amazing.  Through Brother Pence’s leadership the church shipped about 8 tractor-trailers of relief supplies.  Once again, they are willing to help.  Brother Pence said he would work as long as the Gospel was given because of their efforts.

ORH thanks Pastor Chris Humburg from Altoona, Iowa, for being the first to contact ORH about a work team possibility.   He asked about possibly helping Anchor Baptist Church, Pastor Carl Wood.

Once again ORH’s Air Hope Ministry will be led by Dave Spangler, Flying 4 God.  He will provide air support to those in the disaster zone.  His plane can deliver up to 1000 pounds of relief goods with each flight.  In Harvey, he delivered workers to the Houston area from Florida.  Pray we will have the funds necessary to fly the needed missions.

ORH also thanks Pastor Bob Harrison of Fellowship Baptist Church in Economy, PA, for volunteering to organize churches in the Pennsylvania area to collect relief supplies for the efforts of ORH.  This is not the first time he and his church have been a blessing to those in need.

Please pray that funds will be available to continue the efforts in Hurricane Florence.

If you wish to give by credit or debit card, please go to www.operationrenewedhope.org and choose “Network for Good.”  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose using “My preference is” then stipulate your preference.

UKRAINE BLESSING

Saturday, September 8, 2018

Dear Friends,

UKRAINE

Please read these reports from our clinic in Ukraine with the Enskyys.  They will be a blessing.

Dear brothers and ORH team, We wanted to encourage you with some good news this morning!  Maria, who came to us through the ORH outreach, has been coming faithfully to church and this morning repented of her sins.  She ran down to the front and got on her knees and repented and received Jesus as her Savior.

We have 3 other ladies who have been coming regularly from the clinic.  Two of them expressed interest in coming to our ladies Bible study on Thursday.  Praise the Lord!  The Enskyys”

“Dear Jan, During the ORH outreach, one of our church members (Tanya) had her niece seen by Dr. Jensen.  After examining her and looking at her history, he advised further specialist consultations that we can't get here in Mukachevo.  Stephen Poindexter connected us with an American doctor in Kyiv who is trying to find a qualified pediatric urologist that might be able to help Sofia on a long term basis.  Our church will take up a love offering to help Sofia but she asked me to contact you to see if you might help with this need.  She has had kidney problems/infections for the last 2 years.  Tanya is a faithful member of our church and lives in poverty.  Thank you for considering this, Lori Enskaya”

ORH was able to send the money for the medical need, and Sofia is on her way to the doctor in Kiev.

Dear Jan and Rick, Greetings from Mukachevo!  We have had a constant flow of 1st time, returning visitors since the outreach.  we have had some very productive conversations about the lord and many discipling opportunities.  Praise the Lord for open hearts!

I did not get Dr. Jenson's email before he left.  I would like to keep him updated on Kati, his interpreter.  She has been consistently coming to church and has accepted my invitations to coffee.  she is very open to the gospel and knows she needs to make a decision.  We have had some very frank and honest conversations and I believe that she trusts me.  She has shared a lot about her past and what she wants from the future.  Most Ukrainians are not that open.  Please be praying for her salvation and for our relationship to grow….  Have a wonderful Lord's day, Lori for all the Enskyys”

ORH will be sponsoring a children’s “Special Needs Clinic” with Lori and Oleg.  Pray that many parents will come to this event to understand better ways to help their children.  Many parents with special needs children came to our recent evangelistic clinic in Mukachevo.  Pray we will have the funds to bring specialist to this event.
