Russian Lady Burned and in Danger of Death

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Dear Friends,

Pastor Dave Greear from Raleigh, NC, Cornerstone Baptist Church brought this need to the attention of Operation Renewed Hope.  We are seeking to gather information about this situation so we can answer the need, if possible.  If you have any suggestions, please, contact ORH immediately.

This is a communication sent to ORH by Missionary Kevin Jones, ministering in Siberia.

“Elena is a 36-year-old mother of a 6 year-old son.  She is a pharmacologist by profession, and finished university magna cum laude and had started her post-grad doctoral work.  She was working three jobs to support herself and son. She worked second shift and finished at midnight on July 7, 2014.  On the way home, the pedestrian bridge that she was supposed to cross had been hit by a semi and was closed.  Her mistake was to try to cross the viaduct using a different route.  She was hit with 27000 volts of electricity which ignited some flammable fluids on the ground around her, resulting in 3rd & 4th degree burns over 80% of her body.  She has been treated in the Krasnoyarsk burn unit since that time.  They have been able to treat the burned areas, but 20% remain in need of grafts using lab-produced skin.  Her sister has donated as much skin as is possible, as has the patient herself.  Russia does not have any facilities that can provide her with the medical treatments that will save her life.  There are only 3 antibiotics that can treat the bacteria that frequently infects exposed burn areas.  This bacteria has become resistant to one of the three, so she has now started the second type.  One real danger is that this bacteria may not be eliminated and that it will become resistant to all 3 types of antibiotic.  If this occurs, she will die.  If she does not receive the skin grafts needed, she will die.”

Kevin is a missionary through Heartland Baptist Missions of Pensacola, FL.

“Kevin and Jessica Jones have been working in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia for over 11 years. During this time, they have been instrumental in the founding of Krasnoyarsk Baptist Church. Kevin is now the pastor of the church and they have seen much growth in the past several years. For more information, please visit the Jones’ website at www.siberianjones.com”

If you have any suggestions, ideas, connections, or abilities to help us with this great need, please, let us know immediately.

God bless,

Jan Milton

Vanuatu Update 1

Brothers and Sisters in Christ at Vanuatu

Dear Friends,

The email below came through Pastor Lloyd Donica of Bethel Baptist Church in Hampton, VA.  He received this message from Steve Gibbs.  On Sunday, we first heard of Steve through Fellowship Bible Church of Lancaster, SC, where Pastor Mills is the pastor.

Please read this information so your church can know the needs of the brothers and sisters on Vanuatu.

“Dear Friends,  We have just been able to get through on the phone to Jimmy Kalo in Vanuatu.  The best news is that everyone on their property survived the cyclone.  They still have no water and no electricity, and the outdoor kitchen where they do their cooking has blown across the street and down the road.  During the night while Pam was passing over, the men had to block the door with their bodies to keep it from blowing in.  Much water came in the house but mercifully their roof stayed on.  You can imagine that everyone is in shock.  There is no one who has not been affected by the ravages of the cyclone.  Many ministries and businesses and families will be rebuilding from basically nothing.  Photos of Port Vila show uprooted trees, mangled buildings, shipping containers displaced in the road.  What kind of wind can blow a shipping container around?  Extensive flooding has also caused a lot of damage to buildings and infrastructure. Boats are splintered and washed up on shore.  Power lines are down everywhere and roads and bridges washed away.   Many pictures of the devastation in Port Vila have been posted on Facebook.  It’s a sobering journey to see the devastation.  As yet there is no word from the outer islands.  We cannot imagine how people in bush housing have managed to survive. Vanuatu will be a long time in recovery from this major storm, the South Pacific equivalent of Haiyan or Katrina.  Thanks for praying.  We will let you know when structures are in place to receive donations to help the victims.

It will be many weeks, perhaps months, before children can return to school, gardens will once again produce food and life will be begin to take on some semblance of normalcy.  We ask you to pray for us that we will have wisdom and insight as to what is the best way to help those whose lives have been radically changed by natural disaster.
Steve and Jane”

Syrian Refugee Update 5

Monday, March 23, 2015

Dear friends,

ORH received this latest report from Pastor Dahdah of Gospel Baptist Church in Zahle, Lebanon.  He is accounting for the latest funds of $2000 sent for the welfare of the Syrian refugees ministered to by his church.  Pastor Dahdah tells us that he is ministering to the people through his church services.

“Dear Brother Jan Milton,
Here is the report and some pictures of the last aid for the Syrian refugees , $ 2000
$ 1000 Fuel Oil    1000  /  $ 50  =  20 families; $ 850  Snow boots   850  :  $ 17 =  50 persons
$ 150 Church expenses + money transfer; Thank you very much for your help.
May God bless your efforts; In His Service, Pastor karim Dahdah”

Please continue to pray for this ministry.  We are planning an evangelistic clinic in Pastor Dahdah’s church in Zahle.  Pray we can raise the $5000.00 to make this evangelistic effort a reality.  The security of a large group of Americans is very questionable.  However, we have access to 4 Lebanese medical care givers who could conduct the clinic while Pastor Dahdah preaches the gospel prior to the clinic day.  Pray this will be a reality.

If you would like to give by debit or credit card, please go to www.operationrenewedhope.org and choose “Network for Good.”  Designate the gift for “International Relief.”

If you would like to give by check, please send to Operation Renewed Hope, P.O. Box 43242, Fayetteville, NC  28309.  Designate the check for “International Relief.”

Please, take time to look at the most recent pictures which we have received in the attached PDF.

God bless,

Jan Milton

Cambodia 2015 Clinic Update

Cambodia 2015

Our first team of 2015 was in Cambodia with Dr. Tom Johnson.  The following is a message he sent to ORH.
“Dear Jan:  Thank you sooooooooo much for coming back to Cambodia! It was the best team we have ever had. I miss working with the docs, already!  Dr. Dersch, Daniel, and Dr. Gibson were particularly awesome. I would love to join you in the Philippines, if the Lord works it all out! Your messages were wonderful and I cherish them; I will try to review them often-especially the one about walking in Jesus' foot steps-wow, that was powerful!!
Anna and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the $500 gift at the Saturday dinner. That was an unexpected blessing and very much needed. Thank you for being so generous….  There are 2 new areas that we want to do clinics that I feel will produce to two new churches-one in Gom Pueng Speu province and another in Prey Veng province. Please try to remember us in your prayers; and we will try to do the same.  Love, Tom and Anna”
The trip went to the southern areas of Cambodia.  We worked in Kampot village for three days and finally moved to Kampong Speu for one day which was a new church start completely.  Dr. Johnson had a marvelous team of Cambodians who worked with us.  Over 940 patients attended the clinics and national evangelists preached the gospel each day.  Dr. Johnson and his team of evangelist were able to lead 235 people to Christ.
When Dr. Johnson first began the work in Kampot, those who agreed to sell the land originally reneged and demanded more money.  After two years in court, Dr. Johnson finally was able to hold the people to their original agreement.  At the close of the clinic in this very strongly Kamer Rouge province, these same people expressed their gratitude for his work in their community.  Although they were very angry in the beginning, they experienced the good hand of our God, and their hearts were softened.
The Gospel and good works are a powerful force.
We thank God for the opportunity to be a part of Dr. Johnson’s ongoing efforts to  win the lost.
