Peru Flooding

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Dear Friends,

Once again, our brethren and their ministries to the people are in need of physical and spiritual help.  This time the need is in Peru with the terrible flooding.  Thanks to Dr. Rick (Ricardo) Armstrong of Iglesia Biblica Bautista Antioquia in Antioch, CA. ORH has been given the names of trusted people with which to work.

Dr. Armstrong has suggested a man who is in Peru and from his church, David Shipiama.  Below is his testimony about the situation.

“The people of Peru are going through difficult times. The mud slides and heavy rains have flooded many communities and have the whole country in suspense. Peru hasn't seen this much devastation caused by rain in the last 20 years.  The most affected areas are the central mountains and the coast.  The report from the government is that the heavy rains and mud slides are expected to continue until the end of the month.”

David continues his description of the situation.

“To this day, there have been reports of 75 deaths, 263 wounded, 20 people missing and 99,475 people that have lost everything they had.  Our main concerns right now are our brethren in the north that have been hit the hardest.  Many have had to evacuate their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs not knowing when they will be allowed to go back and others have lost everything.   The most urgent needs are food, water, shelter, clothing and medicines.”

David attends Iglesia Bautista de Fe and works with a group called MADEL that educates church leadership, gives the gospel, teaches English as a second language, and provides medical care.  The pastor and director of the church in Lima, Iglesia Bautista de Fe, and its ministry, MADEL, is Giorgio Romani.  Below is his appraisal of helping the people in the impact area.

“Due to the natural disasters in Peru, we are planning as a ministry and church to help two churches located right outside of Lima and also two churches located in the area of Chiclayo and possibly one in Piura.”

The churches located near Lima are in an area that has been and is still being hit with mudslides and rain.  We have spoken with the pastors of these churches and they are desperately asking for help. They are in great need of basic supplies: …Food (non-perishables), Water, Diapers, Soap, Clothes, Toilet paper, Milk (powder), Medicine (basic medical aid supplies).

In the next couple of months they will also be in need of supplies to start cleaning and rebuilding walls: Bricks, Concrete, Plumbing, Electrical wiring, Sand.

We have also spoken with a couple of churches in Chiclayo and Piura (northern Peru) and they are also in great need of similar items. They are not receiving as much help because it is very difficult to get to those areas at this point….”

Please pray that ORH will be able to help these churches and the people in the community around the churches.  ORH is committing $2000.00 immediately to the need.  Pray for the work of the local Bible College which was flooded close to the area in Lima.

Peru Flooding Update

Saturday, March 25, 2017

Dear Friends,

The planning continues in Lima by our church brethren to reach into the devastation areas which will receive the least amount of help.  Please read the plans that were emailed to ORH by Pastor Giorgio.

“Mr. Milton, Yesterday, we received information from the pastor and church on the outskirts of Lima that we are planning on helping.

He told us about two towns, Barba Blanca and Winco, that are located approximately 40 minutes north of him. These two towns have been greatly affected by the rain and mudslides. They are not being helped as much as the others because the only way to get to them is with four wheel drive vehicles.

We will be going to help and bring donations to these people on Monday. We are renting a truck to bring the donations to Chosica, and from there we will have to rent 4 or 5 trucks (4 wheel drive) to go up the mountain. The cost for the truck to Chosica is covered and we have contacted some local churches here to help cover the cost of the four wheel drive trucks. It is around 180.00 soles to rent each one of these trucks.

We have collected donations from 4 other churches for this Monday, but the need is great. If the Lord provides, we will like to go there more than just this coming Monday.

As far as we know, these two towns do not have Baptist churches; however the pastor in Chosica shared with us that it is an area that they would like to reach out with the gospel and Lord willing in the future have a church planted over there.

Thank you for your time and your help!

I will be taking pictures and Lord willing I will be able to send those to you Monday night or Tuesday morning.  Giorgio Romani, Gal 2:20”

ORH is excited by the combination of the gospel and a helping hand.  It is the ministry of Jesus.  Please pray that the excursion by the suffering church to relieve the suffering of others is successful.

ORH is sending $500.00 of the committed $2000.00 to this worthy effort.  Pray for God’s blessing as the churches unite to relieve suffering temporally and give the gospel for eternal relief.

Albania Urgent

Thursday, March 2, 2017

Dear Friends,

ORH clinic planner, Rick Williamson, is in Albania with missionary Mike Fiocchi preparing our next medical clinic for July 2017.  Please read the update he sent.  After Rick’s update, there is an urgent prayer request.

“Attached is the picture of Hasima and her family.  They live in the village of Laknas, Albania.  Hasima is the one that is standing directly under the TV.  She was saved at Operation Renewed Hope’s medical clinic with Missionary Mike Fiocchi in Albania in July 2016.  Through follow-up home visits Bro. Mike and his wife Jennifer have been able to share the Gospel with many of the family members.  The older daughter (in yellow dress) has also received Christ as well as 2 of her other girls.

Mike and his people go out every Thursday morning to the village with prescheduled visits to continue the follow-up visits from the clinic contact.  We are going this morning to visit a couple of the families and witness to them.  We should also be getting a video interview of Hasima’s testimony and maybe another one tonight.  Serving God and Loving it, Rick Williamson”

Rick later wrote me also about another salvation from those in last year’s clinic.

“…add to the paragraph that following our video session tonight the girl standing to my right was saved.  Now Hasima and 4 of her daughters are Christians.  We are praying for her husband. Serving God and Loving it, Rick Williamson”

URGENT!!!

Please pray about a new sponsor for our trip to Albania in 2017.  The sponsoring organization that has sponsored our clinics since our first clinic in Albania is no longer sponsoring church oriented clinics.  We must find a sponsor.

Rick and Mike Fiocchi will be meeting with a doctor who could sponsor us into the country Friday morning Albania time.  Please pray for this meeting. We cannot let this ministry end.  Too many people are receiving the blessing of God.

By the way, the people, Rick mentioned that he and Mike would be following up from the clinic last year, received Christ also.  Rick called just a few minutes before preparing this update to give the praise.
