Kerala, India News

Sunday, August 19, 2018

Dear Friends,

India

We are very thankful for Dr. John Paul’s selfless spirit to help the people of Kerala.  His wife, Elizabeth, who is a dentist, will be traveling with him.  Their baby will stay with Dr. John Paul’s father and mother.  Pray all will be safe.

The sad news is that the brother in Christ, James, who sent an update published in the last email cannot find his family members in Kerala.  They lived in one of the hardest impact areas of the flooding.  Pray they will be found alive.

“Dear Uncle Jan,

Greetings; I thank and praise God for the initial help for the victims of Kerala. Once again, I want to let you know that this will be an uncertain period lasting for the relief work. I have worked in Kerala earlier and I know the weather conditions. I am fully aware and am committed to judicious (use) with the funds sent for the relief work.

…In the mean-time, we are making necessary arrangements, lists and a proper route to get through.  Apparently, the roads are opening up.  I am so heart-broken to inform you that Brother James' parents and other family members are missing. He has tried many possibilities and there has been no response. I have promised him, that once we get to Trivandrum, we will go looking in the relief camps as we minister to others as well.  The place where his family comes from is Idukki, where the maximum devastation has occurred, and minimum help has reached. We will proceed to cover Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Idukki; going by faith that God would provide through all of this.  I could arrange 400 copies of new testaments for distribution in Malayalam. Please be in prayer, Yours sincerely in Christ, JP and Eliz.”

Dr. John Paul wrote this in his last communication.

“The biggest fear now is hygiene and disease outbreak.  May God have mercy.  Many parts in the country is reeling with floods. Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, prediction for Goa and Andra, Kerala already, and also Karnataka.”

ORH is sending $2000.00 more for the ministry need. which is and will continue to be great.  ORH agreed with the 400 New Testaments for distribution while working.

Thank God for those already responding to the need.  Thank God for Dr. Patricia Catrow’s tender heart to God.  Pastor Brian Ernsberger and his church, Lincoln Park Baptist Church, Wenatchee, WA, which is a real encouragement.  Pastor Gordon Dickson and his church, Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay, OH which is always strong in time of need.

Kerala, India Update

Friday, August 17, 2018

Dear Friends,

India

Dr. G.S. Nair wrote the following report from Kerala.  Dr. Nair is a godly servant of Christ with a great ministry.  Many of his college graduate pastors are in the impact area.  It would be the pleasure of ORH to help empower this man’s ministry to help the people of Kerala.

Flood and Disaster in Kerala never happened in the History of Kerala.

The total disaster and flood in Kerala accounts for over half a million people being rehabilitated. The torrential rain of past two weeks effected all the districts of Kerala, from northern part of Kerala to southern.

Over two hundred and fifty thousand of all across Kerala have been flooded, even second floors.  People have been rescued by army helicopters and Naval boats.  Many of the area have been isolated.  Rescue efforts are growing.  People are without food and without water and necessary things.

It is not in one place but across Kerala.  The impact area is nearly 600 miles long.  Towns and villages and cities are affected.  Trains are closed.  Airport is closed in the middle of state.

We cannot get everywhere, but we are helping with drinking water, food shelters, cloths, medicine and necessary things. This is a statewide crisis, please pray.

Nearly 280 people are dead within the last few days, and thousands of people have been strangled.  Need prayers and help.

Few of our pastors and many of our believers in the central east of our state lost their houses and with everything they had.  Our churches and individual believers are involved and helping these victims.

Need much prayers and help to assist these victims, it is a state disaster.  This is the time I believe to give the care for these thousands of the people.  Especially to the house hold of Faith.  Need help.  With prayers, G S Nair”

Dr. John Paul Moses, who is mounting an effort from Bangalore with medical and relief help, sent us this report.  This is a communication from a brother in Kerala, James Varghese, directing the Truth and Freedom correspondence program for believers by Dr. Gene Gurganus.

“Dear Brother John Paul: Thank you so much for your interest to extend help.  Hope you know the terrible situation in Kerala.  Now extreme level of rescue work is going on day and night.  What kind of help from your side?  Do you mean medical help?  Till yesterday things were under control.  Givt handled things effectively.  Now beyond the controller of Govt. Helicopter, Lifeboats, Military Engineering force marine commandos and the three forces are on service.  Thousands of people are isolated in all locations.  My relatives, friends, and Truth and Freedom students are facing terrible situation.  Newborn babies along with mothers died of mudslide and flood.  So many...terrible issues.”

Dave Kimmel, a good brother in Christ, has written overnight that he is in Kerala and willing to help.  ORH wants to thank Dave and his wife for their willingness to be servants for Christ in this area.

ORH must send help to these good brothers.  As definite plans with cost estimates arrive at ORH, ORH will attempt to help.  This is very massive in scope.  Please, pray that ORH will have the funds to help.

Kerala, India Flood

Friday, August 17, 2018

Dear Friends,

India

More than 300 people have been killed in the Indian state of Kerala by the worst flooding to hit the region in a century, authorities said Friday, as troop reinforcements stepped up rescue efforts. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/india-flood-death-toll-shoots-up-to-324/ar-BBM3erZ?ocid=spartandhp)

Dr. John Paul Moses and his medical team from Bangalore, India, is heading to the impact area in Kerala.  Kerala is one of the most southern states of India.  Here is information from him about this effort.

Communication One

Dear Uncle Jan and Brother Dan, Greetings.  There has been lots of torrential rain all in the last fortnight at Kerala, especially in the coastal areas. The situation remains very grim.  The government is doing all it can for the disataer relief. There are scores of videos of people asking for help that are making rounds and I happened to watch one today. The kerapat state government requests for all possible aid, such as food and water and other daily survival essentials. It could be an opportunity to work and show people the Love of Jesus most importantly. Please be in prayer as l am making contact with our Christian brethern in the area. Will keep you updated. Will go as God leads and provides... Please remember all those people, women and children who may be affected. Yours sincerely in Christ, Jp and Eliz

Communication Two

Thank you uncle Jim and uncle Jan.. Will keep you updated on the situation.. It is expected get worse. Even Shimoga and Bhadravathi (John Paul’s home in Karnatika) have received red flood alert as all rivers and reservoirs have filled up and flowing at the danger marks.  Praying for the rainbow to appear soon...!

Latest Communication

Dear Uncle Jan and Jim, Greetings in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior...!  Thank you so much for coming forward to help the victims affected by the flood in Kerala. I, Eliz and our baby are traveling with Mom and Dad to Bhadravathi. Will be dropping Our baby olive, mom and dad and return back to Bangalore to gear up and head towards Kerala with emergency supplies. Please pray for our safety and travel, most importantly for the victims affected. More than 400 people have died in the last few days and the worse is expected. Fourteen districts have been affected because of continuous rainfall and swollen rivers and dams. The situation looks very gloomy. Praying for God's miracle, love and mercy and Grace at this time. All the roads are apparently, closed either due to landslides or floods, hoping to get through safely. There is maximum effort from the Indian army for the rescue, and yet there are scores, hundreds of thousands of people, women and children isolated without hope in deepers places. This may be a long- term relief and rehabilitation.  Will keep you updated on all events.  God bless ORH, you are always there and first to respond, to help in times of need and despair such as this. May God be glorified.  We love you, Yours faithfully in Christ, JP and Eliz.

ORH has sent $4000.00 to help with Dr. John Paul’s relief mission.  India is in a time of change toward open Christianity.  It is necessary that we demonstrate the love of God, so our Gospel may have free course.

UKRAINE 2018 MEDICAL CLINIC

Wednesday, August 15, 2018

Dear Friends,

Ukraine

In July 2018, ORH conducted a major clinic effort in Mukachevo, Ukraine.  The clinic resulted in at least 1200 patients being helped with general medical, dental, and eyeglass dispensing.  Of the 1200 patients, we estimate that 1150 listened to a full presentation of the Gospel.  At least, 4 people trusted in Christ.

Here is a report from sponsoring missionaries to Mukachevo, Lori and Oleg Enskyy.

“We wanted to thank you again for the tremendous work that ORH did at Holy Trinity Baptist Church and Touch a Life feeding ministry.  We have had such a good response to the outreach.  Over the past few weeks we have had around 30 visitors to our services and 50 kids at the OBU English/Sport VBS.  As we move into the school year we will be calling "patients" inviting them to small picnics at church and seeing how the Lord might help us to continue to connect with the people who came through the clinic.  Please put us on the docket for 2020 - at least 2x a day, people call me asking when you will be back!

Tanya and I are working on a plan for disabled children and their parents for the VMA program.  I think that we have come up with something that will be tremendously helpful to the disabled community and help fulfill a true need in people's lives that will open their hearts/minds to hear the Gospel.  When we finish up the details, we will get that to Dr. Jones.

….Thank you for continuing to support our feeding ministry.  We now have another family with 10 kids coming to church that found our church through this ministry.  It has been such a bridge to the community and government.

….Thank you for all that you do for the Kingdom of God.  Your humble, servant's attitude was a great blessing to everyone who met you in Ukraine!  Sincerely,

Oleg and Lori Enskyy.

Pray that God will help ORH to continue to have spiritual fruit through physical compassion for all men.  The church is no better than the love of Christ it demonstrates to a dying world.  May we go to that world without delay.

Texas Flooding and Ukraine

Wednesday, July 4, 2018

Dear Friends,

Texas

This is a communication from Pastor David Harris of Palmhurst, TX.  Pastor Harris’ church, Faith Baptist, has families in need because of flooding.  The church families have helped on other occasions with disaster relief in Texas including the last Hurricane that struck Houston.  They have provided physical labor, supplies, and money.  Please consider helping them in their time of need.  Pastor Harris wrote the following.

“Brother Jan,  This is David Harris at Faith Baptist in Palmhurst, TX. I am sending this from my gmail account because we are working from home this week.

I was not sure how to send all the pictures and pleas, so I am going to send them in a series of emails which are related to the pictures attached. This first one is a general email showing pictures of the flood in our general area. Over 16" of rain hit McAllen and Mission, overwhelming our drainage systems. That is more rainfall than we received during hurricane Dolly. When a hurricane hits we have some warning and sandbags are handed out to help people prepare for the flooding. No one imagined this rainstorm would dump the amount of rain it did. Without sandbags and preparation time, people were woefully unprepared.”

ORH has committed $2000.00 to help with the immediate needs.  Please look at the attached PDF.  Please help if you can.

Ukraine

Pray for ORH Ukraine evangelistic medical clinic starting July 15.  Two churches will be helping in this clinic, Friendship Baptist of Raleigh, NC, and Emmanuel Baptist of Mechanicsburg, PA.  Together with the missionaries the team will approach 100 people ministering through medical missions.

Uganda Clinic 2019

Tuesday, August 7, 2018

Dear Friends,

Uganda

The work in Uganda is going very well.  ORH is preparing for a new evangelistic medical clinic effort in 2019 with Keith Stensaas.  The location of the clinic will be in an area where a national pastor has begun the effort of starting churches and training national pastors.  Keith Stensaas, the missionary through whom ORH plans clinics for Uganda, has sent word that this pastor needs help with a motorcycle.  This cycle will cost about $1000.00.

ORH has committed $750.00 for the purchase of this cycle so the pastor can have transportation to prepare the crowds for the 2019 clinic.  Please, pray about this need.  Keith wrote the following.

“One additional item that is not in the prayer letter:  I just returned from eight days in the villages of Kaliro District.  While there, I taught over 50 pastors and church leaders.  Pastor Kasajja, who is helping me with this, is overseeing these churches and pastors until they can be established on their own.  He desperately needs a new motorcycle.  I travelled with him this last week with my motorcycle to five of those churches and travelled over 75 miles on dusty village roads and footpaths.  I can personally vouch for this need.  His motorcycle is literally falling apart.  I do not expect it to last much longer.  Would you please pray about this need?”

In order to prepare the churches for this outreach the motorcycle is very important.  Pray ORH will have the necessary money to meet all of the needs in preparation for an evangelistic clinic in 2019.
