Philippine Typhoon - Post 27

Philippine Typhoon

Saturday January 17, 2014

Dear Friends,

The following is an email from Dan and Edna Cadavos.  Pray for Dan's strength and stamina.  He is ministering at a level that only can be maintained for a short period.  Pray that he will be safe through his times of fatigue.  Please, read the whole email; it will be a blessing.

"Dear Bro Jan,  I am sorry that I have not been able this week to update as I'd like, but I assure you that Dan and Pastor Shaun speak everyday via cell and text frequently as well.  They have seen a LOT of patients and praise God there have been a LOT of decisions for the Lord!  What a tremendous blessing, as we hear the reports.  Like just today, they saw 259 patients with 66 professions of faith in Capiz, a badly hit area. They will be continuing through the weekend, Pastor Shaun sees prospects of a new works resulting in the medical missions, so they will need our construction team now in the follow up phase.

Dan and his men (8 in all) had their tickets changed to January 27 for Iloilo, to continue their work in Northern Panay.  Dan has made a proposed budget/schedule of ministries needed from what he has seen there and from input from the pastors he has gotten close with there. This is just a proposal and they will go and do as much as possible with the funds the Lord supplies, for 8 men over 2 weeks:

Back and Forth Land Transportation: $   600
Fuel for vehicles and chain saws:      $1,000
Labor/Salaries for 8 men and others: $1,400

Materials to help the following pastors/ministries effected by the typhoon who we offered to help:  Pastor DeOcampo, Pastor Jun Ruiz, Pastor Shaun (his house was badly damaged)  $2,000

Other Pastors we would like to help but did not commit to:  Pastor Graneda, Parsonage, Church members and Church prospects:        $2,000

This would cover 3-4 churches that we committed to, and 2 where work had been started but we were not yet finished when we left, standing trees were purchased but not yet sliced.  Others were not committed to, we told them only as the Lord provides.

Grand total if funds provided:  $7,000

Dan said he has explained to them all that this is as the Lord provides and never mentions any amount or promise of help from US organizations...but his heart is touched and you may be aware of another storm out there right now pounding the coast of Leyte, so so sad to see those people there suffering.  God is doing something here in the Philippines.  Dan hopes to take a team this summer (April-May) to Leyte again for one month of relief work with our church people.  We cannot stay here in comfort while our brethren are suffering and worse, souls are perishing.  This is a RIPE harvest field and we will continue to reach out and encourage these battle grounds to reach out to their neighbors while their hearts are softened and touched with our assistance.  So many stories to tell, but right now we need to work (and rest too a bit at this hour -ha).

Hope this gives you a better picture Bro Jan.  Good night from the Philippines:  Dan and Edna"

Currently, there is another storm hitting the impact zone.  According to our reports there are more dead and over 100,000 people displaced.  We are wanting to confirm that the figures are correct, but this is our present information.  As this world groans under the weight of sin it is possible that these events will increase.  The sorrow is great, but we must make these opportunities to reach the souls of men with help and hope in the Gospel.

Pray that funds for these many days of ministry ahead will be available.  The possibility of seeing thousands of people come to Christ is very certain.  People are testifying of people being saved in great numbers.

ORH does not want more money than is necessary to be donated.  At this point, we cannot predict all the funds necessary to complete the work.  We work from frugal budgets submitted by those who are working with us as partners, such as the one in this email.  If you wish to continue giving, we will be as responsible as possible with the funds.  However, it is impossible to predict at this point the total money needed.
