Merry Christms South Carolina

Dear Friends,

The work in South Carolina is progressing after the hurricane flooding in Columbia area.  We hope to help with more of the work there.  Currently, we have $3000.00 to help Congaree Baptist Church in the Columbia, SC area.  We  need a church that would volunteer a skilled work team to use this money for the church repair.  Please read the message from Pastor Driggers about their progress up to this time.

“Bro Jan, …The following is a list of groups that have helped us thus far:

•             Groups of young people from First Baptist in Columbia came twice to help with cleanup.

•             50 Students from Bob Jones University came to help with cleanup and tore out walls for us in the sanctuary.

•             A group of men from Faith Baptist in Taylors provided and installed nearly $2000 worth of cabinets in the Kitchen.

•             A group of men and one young lady from Morningside Baptist church in Greenville provided all new interior doors for the Fellowship building and primed all the walls for us.

•             An independent contractor (Bruce Smith) donated carpeting for two offices and the nursery

•             There have been a small army of individuals that have donated time to help, to name just a few: Darrell Wood, Dave Smith, Josh Williamson, Randy Morgan and many others; along with our own people who have worked tirelessly

Forgive me if I left you out there have been so many!

There have been many groups and individuals that have sent monetary help, just to name a few: Operation Renewed Hope, Faith Baptist in Taylors, Morningside Baptist in Greenville, Victory Baptist in Whiteville NC, Grace Baptist in Columbia, Baptist Mid Missions, Liberty Baptist in Snow Hill NC, Sumter Baptist Temple in Sumter SC, and many other groups and individuals. Thank you to all.

Once again forgive me if I left you out, there have been so many!

I am thankful for all the work that has been done it is amazing to see the progress of the work, yet there remains much left to do. It has been our plan to make the Fellowship building as functional as possible because we will be meeting in this building until the sanctuary is done. We have completed the pastor's office and church office in this building, the walls have been primed, the nursery has been painted and carpeting should be installed this week, new cabinets have been installed in the kitchen. There still remains several things to be done before work on the Fellowship building is complete, we need to; repair all the ceilings and replace most of the drop ceiling tiles in the kitchen, paint all the walls and trim, replace the floor tiles, replace the cabinets and partitions in the bathrooms.

In the Sunday School wing: Replace all the doors, all the flooring, prime and paint walls, replace all the ceiling tiles, and replace the furniture (tables and chairs)

The bulk of the work will be in the Sanctuary. This building was built sometime after but near 1800, so the materials that were used did not come off the shelf from Lowes which makes some of the rebuild challenging. We had a gentleman (Robert Grant) who specializes in helping churches in building programs (he's been doing this for over 30 years) come and assess our needs. His estimation is that it will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $120,000 to repair and replace things need in the Sanctuary to make it usable again. That cost can be greatly reduced if we are able to do most of the work ourselves. He also put us in touch with an architect in Charleston who specializes in historic buildings.

Our plan for the rebuild has been to start in the Fellowship building and work our way to the Sanctuary. So that's what we continue to do. When I stop and think about it all it seems overwhelming, much like the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem must have seemed to the people of God, but God sent a man with a vision of faith named Nehemiah who saw past the rubble and saw a God who was bigger than the need. He was able to organize the people into small units and assigned a small manageable part of the wall to work on. So that's what we have been doing, working on one thing at a time, concentrating on just what is in front of us and moving on to the next thing when that's done. And so the work progresses "because the people have a mind to work".

It is my prayer that the Lord will be glorified in all that happens through this event. Nothing has taken the Lord by surprise, "and we know that all things work together for good". It is also my prayer that through all this the Lord would magnify Himself and the work at Congaree that we might be more effective as the "pillar and ground of truth" in our area as we preach the Word of God.

Merry Christmas Pakistani Believers

Dear Friends,

Merry Christmas in Christ the Savior.   ORH received this email from Sam Stricklin, Middle Eastern and Africa Partnership, concerning brethren in Pakistan.  Sam is in high danger as he works in the Islamic world. 

The earthquake mentioned here caused great damage to the families mentioned.  ORH cannot at this time do the entire $6,102.00 requested for help by the Pakistani Christians, but we can start with $3000.00.  Pray for these good brothers.  They live in the heart of Islam, threatened each day with extinction.  They go to church knowing they might not return home. 

It is hard to plant and maintain churches in these Islamic regions.  ORH wants to make sure they remain as healthy as possible.  We do not want to restart the efforts.  Thank you for reading the following.

Sam forwarded the following.  ORH sent $500.00 to help Pastor Shamawon with surgery which they mention in the first paragraph.

“Hello Brother Sam, 

Thank you for sending help for the month of November. Pastor Shamawon is already in the process of scheduling the surgery of his leg. He is very thankful for the help. 

Concerning about the earthquake, the area that was most affected by the earthquake is Azad Kashmir area. It is a very mountainous area.  It is about 12 hours away from our home. Even though there are hundreds of families affected by the earthquake and many government organizations that are trying to help, after doing a proper research we found 34 Christian families that were neglected by the government. These Christian families suffered a lot of damage from the earthquake. All of them are waiting for God’s help for their needs. Government is overlooking them and is helping mainly in the Muslim areas. The earthquake destroyed everything that these families had. Many of these families have very little to eat. I request you to please pray these families. 

The needs that these families have are as following: (The urgent need is food, blanket, mattress, warm jacket)

·         Food for one week: 2000 Rupees per family (sugar, beans, rice, flour, butter, tea, soap)

·         Total for food for 34 families is 68000 rupees

Blanket 2500 rupees and Mattress 1400 rupees. Each family needs at least two blankets and mattresses.

·         Total for the blankets for 34 families is 170,000 Rupees

·         Total for the mattresses for 34 families is 95,000 Rupees

Theses effected families are in the very cold mountains with a lot of snow. They need a good winter coat. A good warm Jacket in Pakistan costs 2000 rupees. Each family need at least 2 jackets.

·         Total for 2 jackets per family is 136,000 rupees

Rough estimate for the basic needs for the effected families is 406,800 rupees. This does not include the traveling cost. I will estimate the traveling cost to reach to these families. It will be a challenge to get to these families. 

Concerning about the action plan, the pastors in our area were able to take some a food packages and some beds to the effective families. But, it was not much. We are doing whatever we can. NOW THIS IS THANKSGIVING

Dear Friends,

ORH just received this from Dr. David Sum, co-laborer with Missionary Ron White in Myanmar.  ORH thanks Pastor Lloyd Donica and Bethel Baptist Church in Hampton, VA, for their VBS offering which made what you will read possible for the children of Myanmar.

“Dear Brother Jan Milton,  Loving greetings to you in the most-loved name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Pray and hope that you are in your good health.

With the fund that you sent we just helped 98 school children’s needs at Anauh Caung village. Since flood hit them in the last week of July this year we went to these people and helped them twice.

This time we helped them according to their needs. We bought 13 (thirteen) bicycles for high school students who go to school 3 miles away from their village. We also helped 30 middle school children and 55 primary students. Altogether they are 98 students.

For all the students we helped each students one dozen school note books and school uniforms white and green which is a must in public school in Burma. They were very grateful and praise the Lord for His goodness to them through His own people.

We also shared the gospel with them and told them that those precious helps were from ORHUS. On behalf of all the students  a young girl shared her gratitude for the help to us and sent their love and thanks to ORHUS.

Their Need and Prayer Request is well.  This well is not for drinking water but for the field. Every year they plow and harvest twice but this year due to the flood they missed one time already and now as their water systems for their field was destroyed they need wells for their paddy fields. According to them one well can provide 20 acres of paddy fields. According to them they urgently need four wells. One well will cost around $1500 as they are in remote area according to the local authority. So, please continue to pray for these needs in Caung Gone township.

May the Lord Whom you love and serve bless you abundantly according to His riches in glory.  In His service,  David”

Let's Go Church Planting

Dear Friends,

Operation Renewed Hope has worked with Keith Stensaas in Uganda for several years now.  Keith has been so faithful to allow ORH t help us reach his people.  There are two things that I wish to point-out concerning Keith.

The term “church planter” is true.  He has his ministry in Masaka, Uganda, but his ministries reach for beyond this one church.

Keith took an ORH Clinic to the Congo border area.  There, he introduced Pastor Stephen.  After the clinic, ORH purchased the land for Pastor Stephen’s church, and Pastor Stephen with his congregation built a building and a home for Pastor Stephen.

Keith took an ORH Clinic to a church just beginning in Lucaya.  This was a heavy muslim area, but the church pressed forward.  The last time we visited the church we sat in their newly completed building and the medical team and sang “To God be the Glory.”

Keith took a clinic to an Island in Lake Victoria.  Pastor Paul preached each day of the clinic.  He helped to reopen a church on the Island with his preaching.  Many came to Christ, and while we were there 26 people were baptized.  Several baptized were saved in the clinic time.

Keith took us to Mbrizi where we did a day of clinic.  Keith walked me to the site where the church hoped to build.  It was ½ acre of land.  ORH purchased the land and now the church congregation is building a building.

Our last clinic with Keith was at Equator Baptist Church.  People were saved and also added to the church.  ORH was able to help the church complete their building, and also help the pastor there to improve his home.

Keith, to me is a great “Church Planter.”  He now has a Vocational school and Bible college with 33 students.  The future is bright.   Please download the PDF for pictures.

New Baby - Alex and Flor Peru Church Planters

Dear Friends,

Alex and Flor have been faithful to continue our work in Peru.  Just recently, ORH was able to send money to purchase a vehicle to use in the jungle area of Pilcopata and Patria to follow up our clinic work with church planting.  However, they had to use the funds for something a little more important.  Please read the information from Buddy and Loren Fitzgerald.

“Alex just called. He and his family have been in the mountain area of Cusco for a couple of weeks awaiting the birth of their second. They had to travel out of the jungle because of the poor medical facilities there, which you already know about. Besides that, Flor will need a c-section because of placenta previa and some of prior need for an operation which means that she cannot have the baby naturally.

They had this confirmed by several different medical posts, but when they went today to set up the c-section the public hospital rejected all of the other sonograms (even the 4 done over the last few days) and did their own. They say that all the others were exaggerated, and rather than calculating her to be at 37 weeks and ready for the baby, they put her at 35. The public hospital apparently does not like working if they can get out of it, and they want to have a natural birth, even after they saw the history. They say that if things go wrong during the birth they can then try to shuffle things around for surgery, but that sometimes turns out very poorly here (We know several men who have lost their wife here during childbirth).

They have spent all their savings, and are not sure what to do at this point. A private clinic c-section will probably cost $800-$1000. I told him that if it was a question of life or death I knew you would want him to save her life, rather than holding the money for the three wheel motorcycle, but he still wanted me to check with you on what you think.

I just yesterday sent him this month’s funds, which he did not yet know, so he now feels much relieved, but of course, is still in a tight spot.

Please pray with us for him and for God’s work there.”
