Dear Friends,
Much is happening at this moment in Nepal, and the death
toll is rising as people dig through the rubble. The most important thing
is that we give the Gospel while seeking to relieve the suffering of the
people.
Pastor Athem Chothe in Gangtok, Sikkim, India wrote the
following.
“Dear Dr. Jan, According to the media reports the
death toll raised to 3218 today and the hospitals are over-crowded with victims
of the quake. I am going to the border now to find out the possibility of
penetration of our team with aids. My question is, will it be possible for ORH
to set up a clinic in the open fields? Why because the hospitals are
over-crowded and also far from the affected areas.
Thank you so much. I'll get back to you in the
afternoon my time. In His Service, Athem Chothe”
In planning with Pastor Athem this morning to take supplies,
medical help, and the gospel into Nepal, it became obvious that a medical team
from India would be the most frugal use of funds.
Pastor Athem will be going into Nepal for a survey trip with
relief supplies. He will then get us accurate information about sending a
medical team. ORH can possibly fund the medical team to travel from India
to help the people and give the gospel.
Pray we will have funds to do this. ORH will send immediately
$1000.00 to help Pastor Athem with his initial trip and food
distribution. Thousands could hear the gospel in a strongly Buddhist
country.
James Tamang wrote back this communication with pictures.
“Brother Milton, First of all thank you for calling
us personally and letting us know that you care. We really
appreciated very much. Here are some pictures that I took as we
passed by yesterday. Currently, we are focusing on one of the
village close by because of transportation we cannot do much. hopefully we will
be able to do more in future….Our local church has also decided that we help
with which doubles the financial support. Please do pray that God would give us
wisdom. Thank you for praying for us. We were able to access
internet just now. Keep praying. We felt five different times the shake
during the night. It is still continuing.”
ORH contacted Pastor James by cell phone early this
morning. He asked for help in determining exactly what to do. A
plan to distribute rice, lintels, and curry for food was made. Then a
plan was discussed to give the gospel, as they distributed the food.
After the planning, James wrote once again.
“Dear Bro. Jan, Yes, this is helpful advise.
Please have people lifting us up in prayer. God is at work.”
ORH will be sending $1000.00 to get this process
started. Pray for their safety as they help this village which is closest
to them.
ORH thanks Pastor Steve Rebert, Emmanuel Independent Baptist
Church of Winchester, VA, who has supported the work of ORH for many years for
submitting another person to contact, missionary Luke Knickerbocker. ORH
has sent a communication to them to see if they need help.

Pray consistently for these good people. This is their
day to have a large ministry to the people they live among which is usually not
the situation. This is the heart of missions, the compassion and love of
Christ.
