Peru Flooding

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Dear Friends,

Once again, our brethren and their ministries to the people are in need of physical and spiritual help.  This time the need is in Peru with the terrible flooding.  Thanks to Dr. Rick (Ricardo) Armstrong of Iglesia Biblica Bautista Antioquia in Antioch, CA. ORH has been given the names of trusted people with which to work.

Dr. Armstrong has suggested a man who is in Peru and from his church, David Shipiama.  Below is his testimony about the situation.

“The people of Peru are going through difficult times. The mud slides and heavy rains have flooded many communities and have the whole country in suspense. Peru hasn't seen this much devastation caused by rain in the last 20 years.  The most affected areas are the central mountains and the coast.  The report from the government is that the heavy rains and mud slides are expected to continue until the end of the month.”

David continues his description of the situation.

“To this day, there have been reports of 75 deaths, 263 wounded, 20 people missing and 99,475 people that have lost everything they had.  Our main concerns right now are our brethren in the north that have been hit the hardest.  Many have had to evacuate their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs not knowing when they will be allowed to go back and others have lost everything.   The most urgent needs are food, water, shelter, clothing and medicines.”

David attends Iglesia Bautista de Fe and works with a group called MADEL that educates church leadership, gives the gospel, teaches English as a second language, and provides medical care.  The pastor and director of the church in Lima, Iglesia Bautista de Fe, and its ministry, MADEL, is Giorgio Romani.  Below is his appraisal of helping the people in the impact area.

“Due to the natural disasters in Peru, we are planning as a ministry and church to help two churches located right outside of Lima and also two churches located in the area of Chiclayo and possibly one in Piura.”

The churches located near Lima are in an area that has been and is still being hit with mudslides and rain.  We have spoken with the pastors of these churches and they are desperately asking for help. They are in great need of basic supplies: …Food (non-perishables), Water, Diapers, Soap, Clothes, Toilet paper, Milk (powder), Medicine (basic medical aid supplies).

In the next couple of months they will also be in need of supplies to start cleaning and rebuilding walls: Bricks, Concrete, Plumbing, Electrical wiring, Sand.

We have also spoken with a couple of churches in Chiclayo and Piura (northern Peru) and they are also in great need of similar items. They are not receiving as much help because it is very difficult to get to those areas at this point….”

Please pray that ORH will be able to help these churches and the people in the community around the churches.  ORH is committing $2000.00 immediately to the need.  Pray for the work of the local Bible College which was flooded close to the area in Lima.
