WV Praise

Saturday, July 30, 2016

Dear Friends,

This is a report received from Greg Rife, Restore Ministries, who is working to restore the living quarters for the staff at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  Greg is a faithful and long-time friend of ORH.  In the last update, I reported that we had sent $2500.00 for the work that Greg is doing.  I hope that more will come in so that Greg can finish all that the Lord has laid on his heart to do.  The ORH goal was $10,000.00 to help Greg.  Greg wrote the following.

“Hey bud. I'm here in WV in Elk View at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with a seven man team and have been since the 8th. We've gutted, pressure washed, and bleached the youth pastor's parsonage. We've done a couple days of debris removal and gutting in the camp. The camp project will take over $100,000 to complete and months of skilled labor. We've finished gutting, dry walled, trimmed, painted and replaced the electrical components in the associate pastors parsonage. We should complete flooring and touch ups by Saturday afternoon, completing the home. We need to continue to raise money so that we can return and complete the youth pastor's parsonage next.“

ORH thanks Florence Baptist Temple, Floence, SC; Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Bedford, VA; Emmanuel Independent Baptist Church, Winchester, VA; Friendship Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC; Friendship Baptist Church, Zionville, NC; Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, GA; Crow Baptist Church, Daniels, WV; First Baptist Church of Westwood Lake, Miami, FL; and to all the individuals that have made it possible for the work of ORH in WV to continue by their gracious gifts.

ORH could not begin to do the work of God without the selfless churches who help in the work.  Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay, OH, is one more of those churches.  Pastor Gordon Dickson and his congregation are working with Pastor Shawn Davis and Calvary Baptist Church in Clendenin, WV.  They have made one trip already to the location, and the church has agreed to work with ORH to help the church and pastor.  ORH has agreed to provide an initial $6000.00 to aid in their efforts with the Church.  Pastor Dickson sent the following budget for the work.

Rough Plan and Budget, Calvary Baptist Church, Clendenin, WV, Flood Restoration

6 HVAC units - Need $10, 600 / Now have $9000; Electrical Re-wiring Restoration - $5,000; Dry Building w/Dehumidifiers; Mold Remediation  $1,000; Wall Replacement in Basement $900; Finish/ Paint $200.

It has been the privilege of ORH to work with Calvary Baptist in Findlay and Pastor Dickson since the early days of Hurricane Katrina.  This is truly a servant oriented church.  God bless and thank you Calvary, Findlay.

God is good; God’s people are strong; the work of God is strong in the United States; and it is time “to rise up and build.”  To God be all glory, lift high the cross of Christ!

West Virginia Update

Friday, July 29, 2016

Dear Friends,

Please forgive the delay in issuing information on the West Virginia flood situation.  ORH personnel were engaged in an evangelistic medical clinic in Albania with missionary Mike Fioochi.  Mike is starting a new church an asked ORH to help with the effort.  ORH is always glad to help missionaries reach people medically and with the Gospel.

Below is a message from Jonathan Cleghorn in Clendenin, WV.  He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Shawn Davis.  Jonathan’s father is a pastor in the state of Washington.  Jonathan asked ORH to publish this appeal for help.  Please read the appeal.

“Pastor Milton, here is the email describing what we are thinking about the trailer. If you have any questions, call/text me or reply to this email. I appreciate your help!  Jonathan

Having a small or medium size trailer (15-25 feet) would allow us to stay on our property until we have the house fixed up enough to move back in, rather than having to rent another house 30 minutes away.

Because of the magnitude of the repairs needed, it will be two or three months at the earliest that we can move back in; if we can stay on the property it will allow me to work on the house in my spare time and thus complete repairs somewhat faster.

We are looking for a trailer to borrow or rent at less than market price.

-It would need to be able to sleep two adults (my wife and I) and two kids (5 and three year old boys), with room for a pack-n-play for the baby girl to sleep in.

-My wife has asthma, so it is important that the trailer not have mold problems.

-There is a functioning bathroom in our house, so we do not plan on using the bathroom in the trailer.

-I have a GMC Yukon with a ball hitch; its towing capacity is 8,000 lbs. If necessary, I can make arrangements to pick the trailer up.”

ORH cannot be a go-between for Jonathan and anyone willing to help his family.  Anyone wishing to help this young man should contact him directly at (jonathan.cleghorn@gmail.com) or (509) 690-8475.  All arrangements must be made with Jonathan exclusive of ORH.

The work continues at many locations.  Operation Renewed Hope just sent $2500.00 to Restore Ministries, Greg Rife.  Greg’s ministry has been working to restore housing on the property of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview, WV.  Restore Ministries has formed work teams and fund raised several thousand dollars for the work at Mount Pleasant.  It is a pleasure to share ORH funds with Restore Ministry efforts.

If you wish to give by check, please send the check to Operation Renewed Hope, P.O. Box 43242, Fayetteville, NC 28309.  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose.

West Virginia Update

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Dear Friends,

ORH is continuing our efforts in West Virginia.  Today Pastor Guy Altizer, ORH Board Member, is in West Virginia.  He sent me the following report.

“Rainelle is not starting until Thursday. Going tomorrow to Clendenin WVA. Pastor Shawn Davis and his people are in BIG trouble!! I have not been able to contact the man in Beckley. I will try again tomorrow.”

Pray for Pastor Guy and his wife; he and she are with people who really need help.  Pray for their health and safety.  They are living in a small camper about 8 ft wide and 12 ft long.  He and his wife, “Cookie”, are remaining mobile so they can be of service when needed.

He mentioned the man in Beckley, WV in his report.  Pastor Guy, while contacting the people he is helping, dialed a wrong number.   The man who answered told of his terrible circumstances and wanted to know if we could help.  Sadly, we were not able to re-contact the man.  Pray for the people of WV.  There is terrible hardship there.

Pastor Gordon Dickson of Calvary Baptist Church in Findlay, OH wrote the following to illuminate us on the hardships.

“Jan,  Here is what I've been able to learn from Pastor Shawn Davis about the situation at Calvary Baptist in Clendenin, WV.  The basement of the church is mainly cinder block construction. The wallboard and furnishings have been torn out. The county requires them to renovate their electrical service and they are working on that.

Replacing the 4 HVAC units for the church will be one of the biggest hurdles. Pastor Davis received an initial estimate of $25,000 for all four. (They were able to have an 11 AM service this past Sunday, using fans for ventilation.)

The basement of the parsonage was completely flooded. They also had 4 feet of water on the first floor. Most of the possessions of the pastor's family were destroyed.  It is my understanding that insurance will not cover any of these needs.

Pastor Davis' vehicle was also destroyed. He is presently using a borrowed vehicle to get back and forth to his other job.

Next Steps

When we travel down for a survey trip on Friday, we will use a moisture meter to check the moisture levels throughout the church building. One of my deacons is a flood restoration specialist. He tells me that the internal duct work may need to be replaced as well. We will also study the damage in the parsonage to develop a plan for that as well.

I have been talking to some other pastors about this need. I believe that we may be able to put together some work teams to help. The main goal for this Friday (7/15) will be to survey the situation and try to design small projects for future work teams.

Please pray!  Sincerely, Gordon Dickson, Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay, Ohio, 419.422.6842”

Pastor Dickson has supplied pictures which are in the attached PDF.  It is interesting that Pastor Davis commented that he never truly understood or appreciated the hardship from such a disaster.  He said that he would look so differently on requests for help in the future.  Pray that the $1000.00 we sent to him will stabilize him for the continuance of the church.

If you wish to give by check, please send the check to Operation Renewed Hope, P.O. Box 43242, Fayetteville, NC 28309.  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose.

West Virginia Update

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Dear Friends,

West Virginia is still an on-going effort and extremely challenging.  In the efforts there, we have had requests for people who can hang sheetrock.  The work need is so great that locals are engaged with work, attempting to repair the damaged buildings and homes.

If you can work in the flood zone, please contact us.  Please call ORH at 910-987-5072, or call Guy Altizer at 864-906-4647.  Obviously, if you have carpentry skills your help is greatly needed.

ORH is so grateful for those who have donated toward materials for homes needing repair.

If you wish to give by check, please send the check to Operation Renewed Hope, P.O. Box 43242, Fayetteville, NC 28309.  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose.

God bless,

West Virginia Update

Sunday, July 3, 2016

Dear Friends,

ORH is always thankful for the volunteers that work so hard to accomplish the goals of our ministry.  They are very simple 1) win souls and bless churches, 2) Relieve suffering of all men wherever found, 3) Send part time and full time people around the world doing our first two goals.  (Matt. 9:35-38)  With this in mind, ORH needs help in WVA.  Pastor Guy Altizer sent the following for us to publish.

“Talked w/Terry Tickens of Eight Days of Hope ministries who is stripping Dorrine Goddard's house. They hope to be finished by Saturday night. A blessing is that the house has no insulation!  They strip and apply bleach for mildew & mold control. He said it would probably need to dry for a few days.

He will call or text me updates on the work. I asked them to try to do Fred Fryer's house. He is the pastor of Sewell Valley BC. They will try. If we could do these two, it would be a great blessing to that church and the church family.

Bro. Jan, If we can get workers, I could go to WVA on the 12th returning on the 18th.”

Please consider organizing 2 to 4 men work teams who can be self-sustained.  We do not want to increase the burden of those who are already burdened with living through the destruction of their homes.  Pastor Guy Altizer is considering taking his camper to the area so he can be self-sustained and help the people.

If you can help, please call Guy Altizer, Simpsonville, SC at 864-906-4647.

We still need several thousand dollars to support the work of Restore Ministries to repair the parsonages at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  Workers have volunteered.

Also, Pastor Alan Jenkins, sent word that food had been delivered to the church and people in Birch Run.  He is now preparing another load to take to Clay County.  Pray for him.  He had to return to preach at Columbia Road Baptist Church, Cleveland, OH.

ORH says thank you to Florence Baptist Temple, Pleasant Grove Bible Church, Friendship Baptist Church, and individuals who have donated toward the work in WVA.

If you wish to give by check, please send the check to Operation Renewed Hope, P.O. Box 43242, Fayetteville, NC 28309.  Please designate the gift for your specific purpose.
