Dear Friends,
It is hard to give an update because so much is being done
by the wonderful people with whom ORH partners. I will do my best
to make the most sense possible out of the chaotic and discouraging things that
they are experiencing.
Guy Altizer, board member of ORH and director of Windows of
Heaven Ministries, has sent a message to ORH which he received after being in
the impact area and even doing a news broadcast for a local TV station.
Go to Guy Altizer’s facebook page if you would like to see the TV interview.
“NEED: Pastor is Shawn Davis. Church and parsonage
flooded!”
ORH has made contact and we are now waiting for a response
from the pastor. In many cases, we are able to send money to stabilize
such a situation.
Pastor Alan Jenkins’ of Nehemiah’s Network, Columbia Road
Baptist Church, Cleveland, OH was sending texts to ORH at 10 pm and later last
night, 06/29/2016. We are sending them in the order we received them.
“Draining day. My goodness the loss!
I have a full day lined up tomorow to take pictures and
meet people. Going to do some work in Rupert. I heard that many older people
are still in houses that have wet furniture
Pastor just called from Clay and said they have no food
in Birch run. I am going to stop at a supply distribution and see
if they will let me take a load of supplies…. Many stores here are short on
supplies.
Please pray as tomorrow I will be going to these towns;
Clay, Birch Run and Rupert. I spent today in Lewisburg and Ranelle.
Please encourage whoever you can to donate funds or
supplies as this need is very great and widespread. Direct Line Ministries has
been such a blessing in getting our load here and now picking up a load of can
goods in South Carolina for Nehemiah's Network and delivering it to Clay, West
Va. for us, and then back to Cleveland to take another load for us. I know that
CRBC has gone above and beyond, so please reach out to your friends and
organizations to give. Please pray I have not seen something this bad for a
long time. I am in constant contact with Operation Renewed Hope and Bro Milton
is working trying to help with his supporters who are being very helpful.”
Pastor Jenkins is filling has van with food and other needs
for delivery. Paul Deem with Direct Line Ministries, Coolville, OH is
delivering 6,500 lbs of food to the church in Birch Run. Pray they will
have safe travel in the truck and delivery. Thank you, Pastor Medlin,
Faith Baptist Church, St Matthews, SC.
Another faithful ministry of helps during disaster events is
Greg Rife with Restore Ministries. Greg is a long-time friend and partner
in these times when people are suffering. He is going to try to help Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church which received substantial damage to most of its facilities.
He writes the following.
“We at RMI feel that God has led us to fund, provide
volunteers, and lead the reconstruction of the 2 staff parsonages as an initial
response. The assistant pastor’s lower level has been gutted and will be
ready for remodel as soon as it is dried out. The youth pastor’s home,
which received more extensive damage, will either be a larger project or we may
tear the entire house down due to its condition.”
He just wrote in the last few minutes this report also.
“Any news on money for Mount Pleasant Baptist yet?
I’ve got a team going July 8 thru 18 to work on parsonages and do some
preliminary work on camp. I’d like to have $25,000 in hand by July 8th.
Looks like I’ve got about $7400 today.”
Pastor Gordon Dickson of Calvary Baptist Church in Findlay,
OH, wrote us the following.
“AACS Schools and State Offices, One of the
blessings of being part of the body of Christ and part of the American
Association of Christian Schools is the opportunity to help like-minded
ministries when they have a need. Heavy rains and flooding in West Virginia
have severely damaged the properties of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and Elk
Valley Christian School in Elkview, West Virginia. Please read the following
note from Jerry Fisher, the executive director of the West Virginia Christian
Education Association, and consider what your ministry can do to assist.”
