Philippine Typhoon - Post 18

Philippines Typhoon

Saturday November 30, 2013

Dear Friends,

We are continuing to support work in the hard hit areas of Panay, and in Samar and Tacloban.  Currently, through the medical clinics we have been told that over 300 have received Christ as Savior.

In one week two more of our medical professionals will be traveling to the Philippines.  ORH is projecting that this will cost about $6000.00 for air fare, medicines, and in-country travel.  Pray that we can do this.  The clinics are the most certain way to get the gospel to the people.

Over Thanksgiving holiday, ORH was in constant contact preparing for the next phase of our work.

This recent information came from Dan and Edna Cadavos.

"1.  You had mentioned a week or so ago that  perhaps ORH could help with the printing of the Gospel Tracts in Visayan for the Typhoon relief efforts.  30,000 were already distributed in Northern Panay - Iloilo with Bro Eric and the medical team.  We have another 60,000 ready to go as well....  Just so you know the price was based on only an order of 50,000, the Christian print shop owner gave us an additional 40,000 tracts at no additional cost!"

The cost of the tracts was approximately $650.00.

"2. Dan is returning to Iloilo on Monday the 2nd and will stay through when your doctors arrive on the 8th to clear, get shelters up and set meetings etc up.  He has 3 men from our church that he wants to bring, 2 are chain saw operators so could help immensely with the clearing a initial construction needs for the churches. The other is our church clerk who a young man who can assist in many areas, especially translation and soul winning needs.... Grand total would be $345 for the fare for 4.  Do you think that ORH could assist with their fare?  One man works for our Christian school, one is our church clerk - our school and church agreed to cover their salaries regardless of their being away, as this is a mission trip.  The 4th man is a native pastor, but also knows how to use a chain saw and is very willing to help, he is a hard worker, Dan knows he would be greatly used."

ORH has released $1000.00 for the Gospel tracts and travel costs to move these essential people into Panay.

Missionary Jim Latzko has reached his home in Tacloban.  The home is wrecked.  He rejoiced that no one was killed, because his church people stayed in his house during the storm.  Here is a report from him about the need.

"As we started going along the south coast of Samar, we were shocked.  The area we drove through looked like a nuclear blast had hit it.  Maybe a million coconut trees snapped in half or completely uprooted.   Roofs in the towns were off, and debris was everywhere.  The hills, once covered with green coconut trees, were brown.  All the way from Guiuan, Samar to Tacloban, Leyte, there is great devastation.

It was getting dark when we arrived in Giporlos.  Smiling Manny Ramil was getting ready to have a prayer meeting with his 6 members that had arrived. There is a big hole in the side of their rented building, washed out by the typhoon.  I am wondering how I can get him to a safer and better place. Manny’s smile was as big and white as ever.

We drove to Lawaan, where Jun Rowmawac pastors.  The typhoon took off almost the entire roof of their church building.  They have a tarp covering the gap, but the typhoon blew out the front and back walls of the church.  Jun and his sister Vanessa were staying there when the typhoon hit.  They took shelter in the bathroom.  The typhoon was so powerful, it sent the church piano tumbling across the church floor.  The wind was so strong it was pushing the bathroom walls in on them.  Vanessa and Jun pushed back and prayed.  Both of them thought they would die that evening."

ORH has just released $2018.00 to Jim to help with expenses they have alread incurred.  I hope we can do more for these very brave men and women.

ORH is attempting give at least $250.00 per pastor's home and $500 per church to help them rebuild.

There is so much destruction that many will not be helped.

Pray for the continued work overall.

Please, consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 17

Philippine Typhoon

Wednesday November 27, 2013

Dear Friends,

ORH supported the work of National Hoops as one of our first efforts in the Philippines.  National Hoops used the original funds to help people in the northern island above Cebu, Daanbatayan.  That effort has proven to be successful, and National Hoops personnel have moved to other efforts around Tacloban on Leyte.

Here is a portion of Mike Washer's report back.  Mike is the Director and Founder of National Hoops.

"Our NHP team is in Cebu…Amos has called me with exciting news each day..They went there on faith since they did not have a truck. People told them that no one would rent them a truck to go to Tacloban…People were concerned about safety so we were also praying for a security guard…God provided a very large truck complete with a driver, fuel, and 2 helpers! It was amazing answer to prayer. The team found out that there was a shipping company that would take them to Tacloban, but the paperwork was very demanding and it would take days to get on board….so through a military contact that God provided, The Philippines Navy will take the team and the truck straight to Tacloban tomorrow! The military will also provide transportation via a C130 plane for the team back to Manila after they are finished. Amazing!

The truck will be filled with relief food and mostly construction type materials including tin, plywood, cleaning supplies, cooking utensils, and many, many other things that are on a list approved by a missionary there in Tacloban. We plan on serving 5-6 churches with rebuilding efforts, evangelistic meals, and paying church members to help the team, and gifts for the church…"

Mike's group was frugal and did not use the entire $2500.00 first sent to him.  We have instructed him to keep the funds and use them for further work and also to inform us of further needs for funds.  We want to support money conscious people.
We are also working with missionary Jim Latzko on Leyte.  We will be sending him the $2000.00 that he has requested.  I have been deeply impressed with his love for the people of the Philippines.  I received this from him.
"I’m in Calbayog City now.  Believers from Calbayog have already made 2 trips to Tacloban, bringing food and hope.  Tomorrow, we will visit 7-9 churches in Eastern Samar and locate churches and pastors there.  The Calbayog believers will deliver the rice.
Attached are pictures of the rice purchased, put into sacks, and a spreadsheet with the cost.  You suggested that Operation Renewed Hope would help with the initial purchase of relief to the amount of $2,000.  The food bought, plus the diesel for the truck to deliver it, comes to $2,018.62, figuring an exchange rate of 43.5 pesos/dollar.  Sincerely,  Jim Latzko"

Pray for the continued work overall.
Please, consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Dear Friends,

We received this communication late last night from Pastor Shaun Jondonero who is a pastor in Iloilo.  He was one of the men who directly made the medical clinics possible with Dr. Waller.  He worked with Eric Hatfield and Dan Cadavos.

Pastor Shaun very graciously wrote the following.

"We would like to express our heart felt thanx, first of all to our Great God and for your organization that has been an instrument in span of 2 weeks, for a 5 day medical mission together with Doctor Greg Waller, and Bro. Eric hatfield, Pastor Dan Cadavos, we've seen many souls that have been saved, and many lives have given hope. thank you for showing Crist love to us. indeed God is worthy to be Praised. God bless."
Please pray for the churches on Panay.  Many good brothers are in need of help to see their congregations, towns, and ministries through this hard time.

Pray we will be able to send the next medical group.

Pray for the continued work overall.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 15

Philippine Typhoon

Monday November 25, 2013

Dear Friends,

Once again, we have great news from Eric and Dan Cadavos.  Dr. Waller, as prayed, has been a significant spiritual and physical blessing.  The work of medicine is one of the greatest catalysts to reaching people with the gospel.

In ORH, our statement of purpose is "Touching the Heart...Reaching the Soul."  Surely, this has occurred through the work of Dr. Waller, Eric, Dan, and the pastors and people of the churches on Panay.

Read Eric's report and praise the Lord with me.

"We did another clinic on an island heavily devastated yesterday. The team left at 4:30 am in order to catch a 6 am boat to the island. There were 62 that came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. That is a total of 234 as a direct result of the medical clinics and we still have one to go.  The last one will be smaller because Dr. Waller has to leave in the evening, but most of the decisions have been made at the beginning of the clinics, so I am expecting the Lord will do great things again today.

On Sunday, one of the families that were helped by the cleanup crew of Doane Baptist Church of Viejo attended church.  Praise the Lord for some good results from that ministry as well."

ORH has two other doctors that we hope to send December 7, 2013.  Please pray the money will be available to send them.  The cost will include air fare, food, lodging, transportation, and medicine.

Pray for the continued work.

Please, consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Dear Friends,
Below is a report from Eric Hatfield our representative to the Philippines.  Eric is with Dan Cadavos and Dr. Greg Waller.  This is a great answer to prayer.  The clinics always offer the best opportunity to give a loving hand of help and a great message of hope in Christ alone.

"I have had limited time to internet the last few days.  Sorry for the delay in a detailed update.

We met Dr. Waller Wednesday morning at the airport and had some delays in getting started our first clinic, but we ended up seeing about 135 patients and had several decisions for Christ.  I don't have my notebook with me that has the name of the church and pastor and I don't want to wake up Dr. Waller to get them.

Yesterday Dan did a follow-up on some of the 5 churches with clean up crews.  We gave two of them, that had already started, the full 10 days which is 10,000 pesos.  We only gave 5,000 to the other three churches.  These have been well received by the people.

We also had a second clinic yesterday where we saw 160 people and again had over 20 come to know Christ.

We are doing a third clinic today in Ajuy.  We continue to move northward with our clinics."

Please, continue to pray for our work.  Many can believe, if we remain faithful.  We have other doctors who are planning to go after Thanksgiving.  Pray that this will work out.  Eric must go home at the end of Dr. Waller's stay.

Pray for the hiring of the nationals in the churches.  We are hoping to reestablish their church and community economy.

Please, consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Dear Friends,

The work continues in the hard hit areas of the Philippines.

Mike Washer, director of National Hoops, has sent us a follow-up about the funds ORH was able to send to him for the island of Daanbatayan.  Please read his report.

"Daanbatayan Relief Work—Pastor Frank just finished his second trip up from Cebu City last night. He wrote me a short email that said “tired, but blessed” These trips are focusing on taking food and other supplies to the needy. We are working through several Baptist Churches including Baptist Bible Church. Please see the pictures below of Pastor Frank and another group connecting with Pastor Tito and his folks."

Mike is planning on working on Tacloban with people there who have worked with him in the past with basketball evangelism.

"Tacloban Relief and Evangelism---I spoke with a missionary who is in Tacloban this week via his cell phone and he told me that the relief is coming and doing better but that people really want to rebuild their houses, but do not have the supplies. They do not have cooking materials and clothes… He also gave me a list of things to bring that others are forgetting about...."

Pray that ORH will have the funds to help this effort toward Tacloban.

We have also received information from missionary, Jim Latzko.  He is attempting to help the people in Tacloban where he lives.  Below is a picture of his house in Tacloban after the storm.  We are hoping to help him and the churches.

Please pray for ORH.  Please consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Dear Friends,

We just received this from our friend David Harris..  He is a wonderful veteran missionary with his finger on the pulse of the situations in the Philippines for BIMI.  We worked with Brother Harris in Japan for the earthquake/tsunami.

"Bro Milton,

We have heard from all of our missionaries now and they are telling of massive needs. Many churches distroyed, areas that look like war zones, and needs for food, clothing, fuel, etc.

If you have been able to generate funds, we could use all you may have.  We have three families working to rebuild churches.  One missionary is now aware of 91 national pastor's homes destroyed and 90 church buildings.

Thank you for your help."

ORH is offering to rebuild 10 national pastor's homes at $250.00 each.  Also, our ministry will help 4 churches at $500.00 per church to rebuild.  We know the need for food is great, so we hope to help them with food and supplies.  This is a beginning commitment of at least $5000.00 - $6000.00.

I hope that before all is done that ORH will meet this need completely by helping all the pastors and churches spoken of in the communication.  We can only do this, if you help us.

These cries for help must not go unanswered.  Please help us to help these people rebuild their homes, churches, lives, and economies.  We can do this with God's help.

ORH is committed.

Please pray for ORH.  Please consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 10

Philippine Typhoon

Sunday November 17, 2013

Dear Friends,

Please read abouit the last 24 hours

First Doctor
The first doctor from ORH will reach the Philippines on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Dr. Greg Waller will be working with Eric and Dan on the Island of Panay.  We have several medical professionals who have volunteered and ORH is attempting to place each of them at the right time and place for maximum effort.

Dr. Waller is an extremely gifted physician with knowledge of tropical medicine after many years in Guyana, South America as a missionary doctor.  He also has many years of travel to many nations as a medical missionary, and leads his own medical mission.  His love for people being saved, the preaching of the gospel, and the establishing of believers in churches makes him both doctor and missionary.

We are going to purchase at least $1000.00 of medicines for him.  His air tickets were about $1400.00 all the way to Iloilo City, Panay.

We will post you as other professionals follow his lead and help the people of the Philippines.

Rebuilding Economy
Operation Renewed Hope wants to rebuild a lost or badly damaged economy to help the church.  Therefore, we have hired our first 5 men out of a church to help work in the community around their church.  In each village, where a church exists, ORH hopes to hire at least five men from the church to go through the neighborhood helping the locals clean their property, dry in damaged buildings, and eventually repair homes.

Why do we do this?

The church can never be any more stable than the people who attend.  If the church people have no work, the overall ministry of the church is weak and suffers.  The church people are willing to help freely, but that does not stabilize the church.  We must stabilize the church, assess the needs, and then empower the church so it can once again minister and flourish.  In the process, the entire village around the church is blessed.  The people see that as the church prospers and ministers so does the overall community prosper.

The only way to do this is to get money flowing in the community.  What better place to start than the church.  Pray we will have the funds to stabilize the church families.  We do not want to give a handout; we want to give a hand up; empowerment, not entitlement, is our goal.

Please pray for ORH.  Please consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 9

Philippine Typhoon

Saturday November 16, 2013

Dear Friends,

Please read this entire report from Eric Hatfield and Dan Cadavos.  They are in among the people of the villages helping the churches to reach their entire village.  This action is the result of all the work done for years by nationals and missionaries.  This is the local church in action.

"We just returned from the northern part of Panay Island and saw the unbelievable devastation.  I can only imagine what Tacloban, Leyte, and Samar look like.  It was a sad sight. Looking at many of the faces you see very few smiles, but you see a determination.  A determination to get through this calamity and continue on with life.  We heard an article title that said: "Strongest Typhoon Meets Strongest People". The Filipinos certainly are strong.

...we met with some pastors, deacons and church members of some good churches in the area.  Many of them were church plants of Doane Baptist in Iloilo.  We worked with Pastor Jun from that church today.  He was able to make part of the trip with us.  He also has offered to help us with manpower to help pack our supplies into smaller packets to give to the churches to distribute.

We visited Benate Fundamental Baptist Church (Pastor Gilbert Leving) who had some roof damage to his church.  Pastor Jun knows this man well and knows we can trust him so we felt led by the Lord to give him some money (3000 pesos - about $65 USD) to help with a temporary roof.  We also gave him some gospel tracts.

We visited Doane Baptist Church of Viejo.  We didn't get to meet the pastor because he is doing relief in another area but we did speak with a deacon.  Their church is in great condition and their people's houses are fine, but they have a lot of sickness in their area.  They have also been without power for over a week now.

We visited Ajuy Fundamental Christian Church where Pastor Jun used to pastor.  Pastor Charlie Parrenio is the current pastor.  This pastor was not available because of relief work as well.  The church building was fine, but they had a building in the rear they used for a Sunday School class as well as storage that was completely destroyed.  They had lots of gospel tracts and "John and Romans" booklets destroyed with the building.  A deacon in the church lives in front of the church and his house also was completely destroyed.  This may be a good place for a construction team to come and help.  We gave them some gospel tracts to be distributing.

We visited Doane Baptist Church of Carles (ground zero for this island).  The pastor is Joseph Alcubilla.  This is a new church plant in the area.  The church building is fine, but all 10 families had everything destroyed.  We felt led to give 500 pesos (about $11 USD) per family to help with basic food, water and shelter until we can get back with more.

There are two other church we are interested in possibly helping:  Doane Baptist Church of Distancia and Conservative Bible Baptist Church also in Distancia.  This city is declared as 80% destroyed by the local government.

Tomorrow after church, we will purchase food and other basic needs to give to the churches to distribute.  After the evening service here in Iloilo, we will be using Doane Baptist's people to pack into small, easy-to-hand-out packages.  We have a plan of giving rice, sardines, soap, shampoo, laundry soap, candles, matches, and toothpaste to distribute.  We have calculated a cost of 160 pesos (less than $4 USD) per family for these needs which should last at least a couple days.  We plan on putting together 250 of these packages (all with a gospel tract) for distribution.

We plan on heading back into the areas on Monday to distribute the packages.

This is our plan for the next couple days.  It is hard to plan any further than that.  We are also still awaiting to hear concerning a medical team.

Keep praying that we will be able to make a dint in the needs here.

Eric"

Eric and Dan are doing a wonderful job.  Pray for their safety as they work and travel.

We are now starting an outreach to Tacloban and Leyte.  Please pray for the efforts of missionaries who have contacted us there.

This now means we are working to the north of Cebu City through National Hoops.  They also want to go to Taclaban, Leyte.

Eric and Dan are on Panay Island which is hit very hard.

Now we are beginning to make efforts on Tacloban.

These are all the hardest hit area.  Our local well established churches are our main source of labor and distribution.  Pray we can sustain all the help to these islands.

Please consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Friday November 15, 2013

Dear Friends,

ORH has an opening to send medical professionals to the Philippines.  We have several who have called expressing a desire and giving us dates.

Eric Hatfield and Dan Cadavos spoke with the Vice Governor of Panay.  He in turn contacted the medical officials of Panay.  Together they have given a verbal commitment to provide lodging, clean food, and transportation for any of Operation Renewed Hope's medical people.  They will also meet people carrying medicine at the airport in Manila for custom's purposes.

I can only tell you that this is open and the island of Panay is hard hit.  The resources for help are not reaching them, and they need the help.

We would like to stagger the deployment so that we have at least 3 people in country over the next 2 months.  I am sure that they could use doctors, Pediatritions, Surgeons, PA, NP, nurses, EMT, Paramedic,  etc.

Please respond to this email if you are interested.  Give us complete personal contact information, possible dates, expertise, and whether you possess a passport.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 6

Philippine Typhoon

Thursday November 14, 2013

Dear Praying Friends,

This is an important communication from Eric Hatfield and Missionary Dan Cadavos.  They have had contact with the Vice Governor in Iloilo City.  He has offered to move them to the most difficult areas around Panay, if ORH can help.  This is a great “open door” for the work of God in these Islands.

Eric and Dan are having to be very careful because of the security issues.  They need our prayers.

Please read Eric’s very encouraging report as to their progress in less than a week after the storm.

“As I have told you earlier, the Vice Governor in Iloilo City, Mr. Tupas, has offered to provide transportation to the hardest hit areas, including an aerial tour by helicopter if needed.  I have attached an image obtained from the NY Times website that shows... the damage path.  When I saved the image it didn't really save the place names so you can go to the following website to see it for yourself: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/11/11/world/asia/typhoon-haiyan-map.html?_r=0.

We will be heading up to the areas east of Roxas on Panay Island first.  We also plan on going to the area of Cadiz on the Negros Island because it is easy to get to via ferry.

When we get to Iloilo City, we will know better about access to Tacloban.  We are hoping that the Vice Governor will have a special way for us to get there, but we will not know until we get there and meet with him tomorrow afternoon.  If he can't get us there with some supplies, we plan on coming back to the southern island, Mindanao, and then driving 12 hours and taking an overnight ferry to southern Leyte.  From there we can make our way up to Tacloban.  It will probably take us a full day after we get off the ferry, depending on the roads and access.  The road was already rough in places so we are taking a team of people including a mechanic.

I wish I could provide you more information faster.  We will be travelling all morning into the late afternoon tomorrow.  I'll try to call you after we meet with the vice-governor to fill you in on some details.  As you can guess, the vice-governor is extremely busy.  Eric”

This opportunity could open the resources of the area to us for transport and security.  Please consider the importance of this for a moment.  The Vice Governor is offering his support, if we will help his people.  Eric told me that he is a believer, and Dan Cadavos knows him to be.

Help ORH to meet this challenge.  For basically $4.50 a day we can feed a family of four.  This one offer of help could give our Bible believing churches an unparalleled opportunity that only state religions have.

Please consider this “open door”, and let’s not hesitate to go to the harvest.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 5

Philippine Typhoon

Wednesday November 13, 2013

Dear Praying Friends,

Eric Hatfield is in the Philippines now representing ORH, and he has been joined by missionary Dan Cadavos.  He sent me this message overnight which gives the immediate plans.  Please read his report

"Brother Milton,

I have arrived in Malaybalay City at Bro. Dan Cadavos' house.  We have prayed and believe the Lord might be giving us a clear direction.  We want to go to Iloilo City on Panay Island first.  We have chose this place because it has an airport open and it is not very accessible from the north (Manila) like some of the other areas.  The government has sent some help down to the Leyte and Samar regions, but not to Panay.  We also have contact with the Vice Governor that lives in the Panay region and will help us with the transportation needs of getting to the other areas.  The Vice Governor needs a day or so to arrange things and we need an extra day of Gospel tract printing and folding.  We should have between 10 and 20 thousand tracts printed by the time we leave Friday.  We couldn't get a direct flight there tomorrow (Thursday) anyway.

Once we get to Panay Island, we plan on purchasing some food and water in Iloilo City which wasn't heavily affected by the storm.  We will then take the food and head up to the northern end which has hit very hard.  Bro. Dan knows some pastors there that can help us distribute the stuff.

We will then go back to Iloilo City and take a ferry to Negros Island just to the south east of Panay.  We plan on taking some food to some churches there as well.  Brother Dan knows a lot of pastors there as well.  These two areas are the regions that the governor said is not getting much help.  They could possible use a medical team or two in there.

Please continue to pray for us for guidance and direction. Eric"

This will be another Island that we will be working to help.   Pray we can establish a network so we can continue to help. This going to be a long process.

We are hoping also to go to Tacloban.  Pray this will all be possible with the funds that come to us.

Dear Praying Friends,

Please forward this email to at least 3 other people.

It is always the pleasure of ORH to work with good people in Christ.  One of those organizations is National Hoops, a sports ministry to many nations.  Mike Washer is the director and is a member of Westgate Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC where he and his family are members.  Bill Bethea is the pastor.

In a meeting with some of his people in National Hoops, two who were from the Philippines, a good plan was devised which ORH can support and possibly repeat.

Please read Mike’s communication to ORH.

“Food Plan: Per the Filipino Group of Spartanburg’s plan---$4.30 Per packet x 500 packets= $2150. This is enough to feed a family of 4 for 1 day. The remaining money can be used for the truck expense and/or purchase of tarps, blankets etc to add to the truck.

Distribution Plan: Frank Dinisi and Gospel of Christ Baptist Church are already putting together packets. They also have the manpower and the Gospel tracts and will be taking a trip today for survey and initial run. This church can provide the missions emphasis we are looking for and also will work through churches, just as we desire as well. All packets should go through this church so that a Gospel tract can be included and evangelism emphasized.   Gospel of Christ Baptist Church, 145 Kauswagan Road, Talamban, Cebu City 6000

Receiving Church(es): Pastor Frank will be helping all of the Baptist Churches in Daanbatayan area and working through them including Baptist Bible Church, which has been destroyed (contact from Monroe Baptist, WA). The Pastor is Ptr Tito Rosello, Baptist Bible Church, Sitio Kolo Poblacion, Cebu”

It is always our pleasure to support great people reaching people for Christ.  These people are doing this with great enthusiasm.  Our planning meetings were phenomenal as we sought wisdom from the Filipino brothers in Christ about how to help their people.

ORH by faith is committing $2500 to the project above to feed over 2000 people for one day.  We hope to have food distribution beginning by the end of the week or before.  We must not forget these wonderful brothers in Christ and the people of the Philippines.

Pray for the food and gospel being distributed.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 3

Philippine Typhoon

Saturday November 9, 2013

Dear Praying Friends,

Please, forward this email to at least 3 other people or churches.  We need your help.

I have just received word from David Harris, Field Director for Far East-BIMI.  He has sent me communication this morning concerning the situation BIMI faces in the Philippines.

David was our lead missionary for the Japan earthquake and Tsunami.  He is a superb individual and a great asset to the mission force of BIMI.  He has agreed to help us coordinate work with BIMI missionaries as he did in Japan.

Please read the information below.  Please speak to your church or pastor about an offering, this would be wonderful.  We seek to help these churches and the un-churched thousands of the Philippines.
David writes the following:

"We have only heard from two of our nine missionaries who we know were affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan.  The storm just passed through (as of Saturday morning EST), and most of our men probably have no electricity or ability to communicate.  We did hear that one of our ministries has roof damage to two of their church buildings.  We know that relief will be needed as soon as possible.  Any help that your organization can provide by way of relief funds would be greatly appreciated.  We have a dozen families in the Philippines that will be working to help bring relief to those people.  Thank you for your consideration."

As you can see, communication is very sparse at this time.  We have written emails to everyone on which we have information.  We have attempted to call by phone as many of the people as possible.

This was a huge storm and possibly one of the strongest in history.

Philippine Typhoon - Post 2

Philippine Typhoon

Friday November 9, 2013

Dear Praying Friend,

As usual, I am writing pleading the case of people unable to speak for themselves at this moment.  The people of the Philippines are now those people.

Thank you so much for the information of possible missionaries and nationals to contact.  Your help has been wonderful.

Now, we must begin the process of raising funds for help with food, water, clothing, bedding, housing, and some medical care.

It is my privilege have a veteran missionary of over 25 years experience in the Philippines, Missionary Dennis Potts.  We have been able to work with him in the past, and it has always been a great blessing.

We need to raise as much money as possible to help people in the churches, and those outside the church.  Dennis has agreed with ORH to help direct our efforts through his contacts in the devastation.  As soon as communication is reestablished, we will begin to send money to the reputable people which work with or in the knowledge of Dennis.

We also have established connection with Missionary Eric Hatfield in China who is poised to go to the Philippines and meet with the leaders, we need to help so that the hand of the church is strengthened to help the saved and the lost.  I am so thankful for Eric who helped in the Joplin disaster and has worked with ORH for 8 years.

We have a plan to begin.  As information becomes more available, we will with the help of Dennis and Eric make adjustments.  Please take a love offering in your church or give individually to help us help.
