Louisiana Flood Update

Saturday, September 24, 2016

Dear Friends,

Operation Renewed Hope has been waiting for the Louisiana area to dry out.  While waiting, ORH has been working with DirectLine Ministries and Nehemiah’s Network to deliver food and supplies to churches in the devastation area.

We also are in touch with churches in the area which are in need of help.  Below is a message from one such church, Saint Amant Baptist Church.  ORH immediately sent $750.00 for the pastor and church on hearing of their need.  Please read the follow up communication.

“We did indeed have right at 5 foot of water in the church and right at 4 foot in the gym. We had to have four mobile homes torn down because they were no longer inhabitable.  We lost all three of our Sunday School busses and our 15 passenger van.  We did have some insurance but not enough to purchase new vehicles.  Our buildings have now been gutted and in the process of drying. We were able to get two Learning Centers in our gym set up to use as a supply room and one for church service,  praise the Lord.

We are still a couple of weeks out but we are in need of Sheetrock and other building supplies to begin the rebuild process.  We ask for prayers for this need at the moment.  God has been so good to us and supplied many needs so far.  I will attach some pictures for you to see what thugs looked like when we were able to return a week after the water STARTED to recede and now as we are drying.   God bless and thanks so much for your help and prayers.  In His Service, Chuck Smith, Associate Pastor”

I called Pastor Smith and asked if ORH could publish his report so that we could raise money for his church and church families.  He answer follows.

Wow!  That's amazing!  Thanks so much.

We are also in contact with Pastor Shaffer of Open Door Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA.  We are waiting for a response of their full need.  ORH will be sending the church $750.00.

Please continue to pray for these churches, pastors, and people of the devastation zone.  They are in need, and the Church must help.  Thank God for the Church and God’s people who always “rise” to the challenge in the power of God.  We have that great example of our risen Lord who literally “arose from the grave” to secure our deliverance.

China Blessing

Monday, September 19, 2016

Dear Friends,

A few weeks ago, ORH made an appeal for medical professionals to look at pictures of a young Chinese man who had growths on his hands.  This young man was brought to our attention by Pastor Billy Gotcher of Trinity Baptist Church, Williston, VT.

Thank God that many responded and a conclusion was reached.  Thanks to all the medical professionals who have helped us across the US and even in India.

A partner of the ORH team, Eric Hatfield, lives in Shanghai with his family.  Recently, he came home for a few days.  While home, ORH was able to meet and discuss the Chinese man’s needs.  Eric agreed to visit the man and see if ORH could be of further help.  Eric wrote me the following after returning to China.

“Bro. Jan, We are leaving Thursday morning to drive to Zhoukou. I have a meeting set with the young man….  Dan (Jones) has sent me a list of questions to ask. I'm going to ask him before I go if he would be available for a live stream call. The estimated cost of travel (food, gas, hotel) is going to be about $400USD. Is that ok?  I included 2 nights in a hotel in the estimate in case we can't make it there and back in 2 days. We're taking a sister with us to help us with medical/technical words. The cost also includes an extra room for her. Eric”

Please keep Eric in your prayers as he travels.  The opportunities to help people are boundless.  Pray that ORH through works of kindness will be able to bless the Chinese people.  There is much ministry to be done in China.

Thank you Pastor Billy Gotcher and Trinity Baptist Church!

God bless,

West Virginia Blessing

Monday, September 19, 2016

Dear Friends,

The work in West Virginia continues to be a challenge.  The need for workers is still a problem.  Anyone who can do carpenter work in West Virginia is working.  This makes it impossible to hire locally.  We thank God for the report that we received from Pastor Harrison of Fellowship Baptist Church in Baden, PA.

“Acting upon the principle found in James 2:14-18, our church determined to help the believers who were recently devastated by the effects of catastrophic flooding in West Virginia.  ORH directed our attention to Calvary Baptist Church in Clendenin, WV, pastored by Rev. Shawn Davis.  Uniting our efforts with the Calvary Baptist Church of Findlay, OH, our three-man team was able to work alongside two framers from Ohio and in three days advance the project significantly.  For two of the three days, another electrician drove from a distance of two hours away to provide much-needed electrical assistance.  Church members from WV were laboring alongside us and all of us were thankful that the new A/C unit had been installed just two days prior to our arrival.  The weather was hot that week!  Through it all, vital framing, electrical, plumbing, insulation, and drywall preparations were made in anticipation of a fully revamped and revitalized basement space for the church.  We thank the Lord for what He allowed us to accomplish for the sake of the Gospel in such a short time.  The recent flooding in WV continues to be a test for other like-minded believers.  Will we sit back and watch our brothers and sisters in Christ struggle through these difficulties alone?  I trust we will take a more biblical approach toward burdens which are too heavy for our fellow believers to handle alone (Galatians 6:2).”

Greetings Brother Jan!”

Pastor Harrison also wrote the following about covering expenses and his future involvement with ORH disaster relief.

“Following our brief trip to WV, we totaled the expenses of our trip.  Our church gave $730.00 toward the expenses, but our total expenditure for the trip was $866.34, including, food, fuel, lodging, and building supplies (purchased for Calvary Baptist Church in Clendenin, WV).  In light of this, would you please permit us to cover our overage using funds from ORH?  By my calculations, the difference in what we were able to gather and what was spent was just $136.34.  This amount would be quite adequate.

In addition, you may be encouraged to know that we are making strides toward being your pilot collection point church, allowing supplies to be gathered for your Cleveland, OH warehouse space.  Yesterday I drafted a letter which will be sent to prospective pastors and their churches, soliciting supplies for ORH.  That letter should go out in the next few weeks.  We hope to be receiving supplies soon!  God bless you and take care. Because of Calvary, Bob Harrison, Jr.”

ORH has had a wonderful partnership with this very good church.  Pastor Harrison has always responded to the call for work to the various disaster areas.  It is also ORH’s privilege to help with the expenses of the trip and work.

Please continue to pray for the churches and people of West Virginia.  Thank you for your giving which has made the relief work possible.

God bless,

Jan Milton

Village Medical Assistant Cambodia

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Dear Friends,

Over the years, Operation Renewed Hope has worked with many hard working and loving missionaries.  Dr. Tom Johnson is one of those missionaries.  He is loved by all who know him.

Dr. Tom has conducted many major clinics with Operation Renewed Hope since 2007.  He now is also doing Village Medical Assistant Clinics with ORH.  These clinics are supported in part by ORH and are conducted during the interim period between our major clinics.

ORH physician assistant, Dan Jones, has taken over this part of the ministry for ORH.  The goal is to have a constant presence in a country at the lowest cost possible.  Pray that ORH will always have the funds to support these works and increase the places.  Currently, we are working Malawi, Africa; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Bangalore, India.  The VMA are much less cost than a static clinic while reaching more locations with the gospel.

Dr. Tom wrote us a report.  These are excerpts from his report.

“Date of clinic:    8/26/2016
Cinic Location: Som Roang Doang Village, Cambodia
No. of Patients:  ___75_____
Spiritual Impact: ___We had 18 salvation decisions.  Because of the nature of the area, the houses being so far apart, people trickled in which made for a tremendous opportunity for one on one evangelism.

Dear Daniel (& Jan):   ….In summary, we saw about 10 ladies with endemic goiters due to iodine deficiency.  One appeared to have Hashimotos disease.  We saw asthma, bronchitis, COPD, hypertension, pre-diabetes, many over use syndromes, a family with a viral syndrome, nutritional deficiencies, 10 patients or more with dehydration.

We had 8 people doing evangelism (including myself), but 5 out of the 8 were the evangelists that I brought along.  The van driver is also a Christian and he helped with evangelism as well.  We tried to show the Jesus film at the end, but due to technical difficulties we were not able to.  We shared the gospel instead and one more person accepted the Lord.  The total decisions were 18.

….Total cost: $646.24

….Once we have our own vehicle, the transportation costs will go down.  Anna has figured out a better way to do food, and because this was our first clinic since being back on furlough, we had some initial supply costs that we won't have at the next clinics.

….Thank you very much for sending the donation….Your financial support on our very first clinic was very helpful….It was great working with you on the first one.  Our next clinic will be on September 9th in Kampong Cham province….For the great Harvest,  Dr. Tom Johnson”

ORH was able to send $560.00 to Dr. Tom for his clinic.  Pray for Dr. Johnson and ORH that the funds will be available to continue this very profitable ministry.

God bless,

Jan Milton
